In our stash we have about 20 different size tarps with a variety of rope, twine, 550 cord and bungee cord for emergency use as shelter. Over the years we have played with different styles of tarp tents and lean to's. The kids had a blast when young discovering shelter and placement and some camping trips we had as much as 10 children with us. Good times. This year the wife and I will be doing 3 major camping trips and one will be out of state. We have a camper but on one trip we will be using the tarp method because of the location. The Jeep and trailer will only hold so much, with water, food, gear and other choices. Our plan will be a 4 person tent with the tarp fly dome. Tarps are a cost effective means of protection from the elements and no tent necessary. Since the wife and I are in our 50's some luxury items are a must. Mainly sleeping pads and being off the ground. I purchased both Army cots and Army 1st Aid field litters to have a sleeping choice when camping. Here are some random pics of the variety you can get with a simple tarp. Any one else that has a special secret chime in with your tarp pic. We have the standard campfire for heat but also have a couple of Mr. Big buddy heaters that run on the 1lb propane cylinders and for our last choice (Back up) we have a old Army pot belly stove with about 12 feet of stove pipe that can run on diesel, gas, coal or wood and anything else you can burn.
