Toxic waste pollution a major problem in the developing world...
    :steamed:
Toxic Waste Exposure Widespread in Developing World
May 14, 2013 - Millions of people in developing countries living near toxic waste dumps are facing potentially severe mental and physical health dangers, according to a new study. The report finds the hazards posed by exposure to these chemical waste sites are comparable to those from malaria and air pollution.

UN: Billions Still Will Lack Sanitation by 2015
May 13, 2013 — By 2015, almost one-third of the global population will remain without access to improved sanitation - which is U.N.-speak for hygienic toilet facilities. That would fall well short of a key global Millennium Development Goal [MDG], which is detailed in a new report published jointly by the World Health Organization and the U.N. Children’s Fund.

India , Indonesia and Pakacrap are not "developing". They're rotting, as are the US and, to a lesser extent, China. If Canada remains with their open pit mining fetish you can count them in in about 50 years......if there is another 50 years.

The governments of India, Indonesia, and Pakistan simply don't care. Most of their people don't care, either.

    Uniting characteristic: Islam.
India has the largest Moslem population of any country. Indonesia is No. 2. Pakistan...we all know about it.

If it's true that the US consumes 25% of the world's oil products, it kind of makes sense that no matter what is happening outside of the USA, the USA itself can have a huge impact on reducing global GHG's...and as a 25% world contributor we don't need to wait for others before taking effective action in the USA...

If all of the government leaders could live in Singapore or some other paradise then there would be less concern, however, it's only a matter of time before industrializing nations realize they cannot stay on a path of dirty industrial and fossil fuel emissions. More education, more Internet access equals more information, more concerns for health equals more concerns for the environment...equals change. I was surprised the Olympic committee allowed Beijing to host the Olympics since China had/has such horrible air pollution...IMO it was sort of a validation that if you pollute we don't give a hoot you can still reap all the rewards...

CHINA SAYS ONE-FIFTH OF ITS FARMLAND IS POLLUTED
Apr 18,`14 -- Faced with growing public anger about a poisonous environment, China's government released a yearslong study that shows nearly one-fifth of the country's farmland is contaminated with toxic metals, a stunning indictment of unfettered industrialization under the Communist Party's authoritarian rule.

"green" countries export their pollution to the third world. Nothing to see here as long as progressives can pretend they have addressed the issue.

amen - They moved the pollution over there with the jobs. Asia/Pacific get jobs and pollution - Western world gets the products with crapping in their own backyard. Judging from pics Asia got the smelly end of the stick

There is a caveat in all fairness. Iceland has made progress without exporting all of its pollution, but that is only because they have big freaking volcanoes that, hopefully, cannot be replicated for use elsewhere.

Don't think Iceland has all that much pollution intensive manufacturing to export but agree that they are sitting on a buttload of cheap 24 and 7 energy

Gotta wonder with global warming in some places, either through spontaneous combustion or lightning storms, or the supply of more fuel from dead grasses, trees, etc., if the incident rate for wild fires will increase? I know in my area it's becoming a critical problem...

Our CA drought conditions and all of the wildfires we have each year are contributors but since there's nothing we can do about this I suppose this will worsen our air quality.

A great federal infrastructure program IMO would be to remove 30-40% of the cars from the road by installing clean and efficient and effective public transit systems that serve more people.

    Or...we can just ask Volkswagen...

Good way to get rid of plastic waste...

    Mealworms Eat Plastic Waste
November 11, 2015 - It's a bit unclear how long it takes poly-styrene based products like Styrofoam to decompose. But no matter if it's 500 years, or 5,000, it's a long time in human terms, and it illustrates the scope of the problem we are creating every time we use disposable plastics. But scientists may have discovered an unusual way to break down this plastic garbage.

Real pollution is the real problem and all this AGW hysteria sucks up all the oxygen in the room. Real pollution should be front and center not AGW

Mon, Dec 14, 2015 - In the future, China is to shut down a factory before it even pollutes — or so it hopes, as it deploys big data in the fight against bad air.
