Mr. Ole Miss. This will upset hardcore Ole Miss Rebel and Archie Manning SEC fans. Those people love their southern heritage and are proud of southern traditions, especially when it comes to Ole Miss. Now the University of Mississippi Associated Student Body Senate voted 35 - 0 to change the Colonel Reb title to Mr. Ole Miss. Opponents of the name change say the title could be meant to be deliberately gender confusing? Progressive liberals have been extremely hard on Ole Miss and their traditions in the past decade. They have been successful at targeting the universities heritage at Ole Miss by banning the Confederate Flag, the song Dixie, The South Will Rise Again, the Colonel Reb logo on the football helmets and even the Colonel Reb mascot. But why? Progressives say its for diversity. If that is true, then how can you have "Diversity" without Southern Heritage & Culture?

This is no different then when Univ of Al banned rebel flags at home games and in dorms over 10 years ago. If you want to be a redneck who revels in a time when blacks were property then join the Kappa Alphas on your university.

I was a KA at LSU back when I was in college and believe me, none of us were 'red necks' as you are trying to describe. A lot of my frat brothers came to LSU from all over the U.S.

Why must you assume all rednecks are racist who look fondly upon slavery? Unfair sterotypes are fine as long as poor whites are your target. Correct?

Well, that isn't nearly as bad as some of the alternatives they had suggested.

By that logic, the U.S. flag is a symbol of racism, slavery, and genocide.

And nice use of an ethnic pejorative (redneck), I guess it's okay to make bigoted statements when you're a radical leftist.

It's not the people of Mississippi, but the irate leftist minority who has hijacked academia that is pushing this PC garbage.. The Marxists in academia want to eradicate any symbol that reminds people of resistance to federal authority. That is why they are not attacking the U.S. flag which was also flown in times of slavery and genocide.

Considering 'New Miss' only starts like two White players on their football team......they should just become a Historically Black College & University.....

More slaves were brought to the US under the American flag then the stars and bars. Not to mention the genocide committed against the native americans. Vietnam, the war on terror just to name a few. I think the atrocities committed under the American flag win by a longshot.

The red in the American flag could certainly stand for the blood of innocent people. I'm no fan of the Confederate Flag, but I agree that the American flag is not exactly a pristine piece of cloth.

I feel slavery was evil and as a southerner it is shameful that so many of the poor southern non-slave owner were killed to attempt continue the oppression of other humans. The war was over more than just slavery even if that was the most important issue to southern elite. Another case of the poor being forced to fight for the goals of the rich. The civil war is very important history and is far more complex than most realize. The south was in the wrong and deserved to lose. The flag should not be compared to the Nazi flag just because some bigoted idiots have used it to represent racist beliefs. There is many lessons can be learned from the civil war. The norths action was not out of love for the former Africans. They were not welcomed with open arms by either side after the war. It took another hundred years for them to actually begin to be looked at as equals to the whites.
