So, what's the big deal? Well, the article I got this from says it takes a long time for the ice to melt and this could cause some serious future problems for those living on and around the lakes.

every time I see a picture like this I always think of the warm mongers predictions that ice and snow were things of the past

But now they alter their message to fit the story. Now it's see extreme conditions, just what we told you would happen as a result of global warming. It's comical. They will never, ever admit they errored. NEVER. They are the king and queens of spin zones.

Oh, and temperatures in north america don't count as global. Remember that one.

That poorly sourced op-ed was just one of thousands/hundreds of thousands coming from alarmists sources. All purportedly based on "actual science". Deny, deny, deny.

I'm curious what you think is phony about the following graph from Berkeley Earth.

Berkeley Earth presents all of their data and code right there on their web site. Doesn't get any more transparent than that.

    Such as?

    The truth hurts, doesn't it?

So you throw up a February pic of ice on the Great Lakes and call it April? Cool.

It's not just the Great Lakes that have unusually high ice this time of year.... Antarctic ice cap set a record for April.

While Antarctica is gaining about 250,000 sq km per decade, the Arctic is loosing about 350,000 sq km.

Then why has the global sea ice anomaly been above average for much of the last year and a half?

As opposed to being below average for most of the decade before that? Again, climate is long term trends (~30 years) in weather.

In other words, you can't tell jack(*)(*)(*)(*) about ice, melting, warm ocean water, cold ocean water by trying to measure CO² in a jug hooked up to a computer...once every 30 years. I get it.

Good point. The moving 10-year average for Cryosphere's global ice data has dropped about a million square kilometers since 1990. Though last year's was the highest since 1996 and this year's is on pace to be a little higher, bringing the average back up a bit, which I do not think is insignificant. We'll have to wait and see if it lasts or if it continues to trend back downward.

The significance of global sea ice is not whether it decreases or increases, but why it is doing these things. Studies show that unlike the Arctic, warmer air and water temperatures are actually increasing Antarctic sea ice. Pointing to increases in Antarctic sea ice in an attempt to disprove global warming demonstrates a failure to understand what the science is actually saying.
