The country that likes to call itself the worlds greates democracy is no longer a democracy it has been found, but is now an oilgarchy http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/the-us-no-longer-democracy
You are supposed to be one are you not? Is there nothing in your constitution to help you change this? http://jfjfp.com/?p=57729
There is, with separation of powers in three branches, president, congress and courts.. Unfortunately, that can't safeguard against anything when all three branches have an agenda that involves disregarding the Constitution. Or in other words, nobody gives a (*)(*)(*)(*) about using their checks and balances.
cant exercise any checks and balances' with this administration you will be called a racist if you do
Britain is in much the same decline as the US http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2012/jul/06/british-democracy-decline-report Our unwritten supposed constitution which dates from the English Magna Carta and the right to be tried by one's Peers has all but gone and now our Home Office Minister increasingly removes the citizenship of people simply because she says it is in the common good but with no due process for them. In the past she has only managed this with people who have dual citizenship. Now she is trying to get a law passed allowing it even when it will leave people stateless - a process some people have suggested shows us moving back to medieval times.
Name one adminstration, Republican or Democrat, that hasn't been. I dare you! They're all self-serving, lying bastards and politicians always have been. It's what they do for a living. They lie to get your votes, commit election fraud, engage in nepotism, accept bribes and handouts from powerful and rich lobbyists...you name it, they'll do it. Like a two-dollar whore.
A certain amount of corruption will always be present, but the level of lawlessness and collusion (Lois Lerner and Elijah Cummings), and the blatant LYING from this administration (which promised transparency) is unprecedented. Snakestrecher, your argument is ridiculous. Most people say Obama is a liar and no spin can change that. People don't like being lied to. And the obstruction of Justice from Eric Holder is a pattern and well documented. Dare me? Don't even bother. I have FACTS on my side; you don't.
I see. So crookedness and illegality is measured relatively now, and Obama's administration is relatively more crooked than previous ones? And you say my argument is ridiculous? You're either a crook or you're not. There's nothing relative involved. Now, if you really want to go down the partisan route, there has been nothing more crooked or deviously underhand in US political than Watergate. Nearly half a century on and it still makes headlines and using '*****gate' as a euphemism for scandal has lodged itself firmly in colloquialism. Of course I could also mention Iran-Contra which was also a scandal of global proportions. I guess you probably don't like to be reminded of Republican wrongdoing and anti-Constitutional behaviour; Patriot and Homeland Security ringing any bells? "...blatant lying unprecedented"? Hmm...don't think so Trinnity.
I like to think about the history of Empires and regrettably I see serious flaws in the present state of USA politics similar to that which caused the downfall of The British Empire and maybe others too. The British version took several hundred years until the 19th century under Queen Victoria to become an Empire by defeating other nations and controlling 1/3rd of the world. Then the 'upper class' that controlled the wealth and power of the nation overstepped themselves, went to war twice in quick succession asking the working classes that supported them in power who had had enough by the end of WW2. The Empire and the Upper Class went into decline, lost their power and the people began to exercise democracy more fully. The USA has developed its Industrial Empire from the late 19th century and gradually developed its Empire from the failure of the British, German and Japanese Empires when their controlling classes overstepped themselves leaving a yawning void of power and wealth that USA filled from the end of WW2 to now. The Russians now seem to be fighting back a little. The American top 1% have become the US 'upper class' supported by the efforts of everyone else and sucking the wealth of the nation their way, using the efforts of the rest of the population to keep them in power. But the cracks are appearing. True democracy is failing and the wealth and power is being concentrated in the hands of a few at the expense of the many. China is developing its economic power and Russia sees an opportunity to flex its muscles against the West in the Ukraine and Crimea. The same symptoms of excess among the US wealthy and powerful people are going to result in the decline of our nation. History shows it has happened before with several other Empires. Will America ever learn from others. I think it was Churchill who said something like. "The Americans will try everything else but eventually do the right thing". Hopefully they will do the right thing sooner rather than later.
The US has become an Oligarchy. This isn't a political jibe, it's the reality of US of AIPAC politics. http://vimeo.com/90830835
To one extend or another. But with current administration, disregard to the Law is breathtaking. Sky's the limit. - - - Updated - - - Welcome back, Moon, we're all missed you. Is self-imposed exile over?
snap. I have a link concerning same man in post 4 http://www.politicalforum.com/showthread.php?t=352016&p=1063805625#post1063805625
UK must get this government to stop gutting the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of the NHS.. Fortunately, UK is a bit better off than the USA as the economy isn't based on a global currency which is mathematically guaranteed to collapse. Although basing the economy on an artificially inflated housing bubble in London isn't much better. I'm eligible for citizenship now but it costs £906!!! Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't buy something they can just whimsically revoke, which they have done in the past with naturalized citizens so they could be demolished by US drone strikes without charge or trial.
There should be a new party in the UK- The National Health Party. It would be a winner. ' National Health ' covers all the aspects of society, physical health, mental health, education, defense etc . People should take back their government and pay their taxes towards their own well-being.
^ No surprise there. A few weeks ago, a Du Pont got just a slap on the wrist for raping two young children. Rich people tend to get their way, and "individual freedom" is just an illusion.
I think we are not that different. We rely on our financial services for a fair amount of our GDP since Thatcher sold us to them. Indeed in the Independence Scotland argument one argument for having our own currency is that due to it's high reliance on the City, the UK keeps the pound at an artificial high. This makes our manufacturing too expensive to be competitive in the markets - also why the SE of England keeps on getting a better standard of living while it falls for everyone else and due to the reliance on the financial sector now our politicians must answer to them first, hence can no longer act for their voters, apart from a few focus groups opinions, hence the end of democracy. One of the most exciting things about the move for Scottish Independence is that people again are getting interested in Politics after like everyone else being dead for so many years. The health service again differs in England from everywhere else. You are though right about creating the housing bubble in an attempt to get elected in 2016. Maybe that is the only game they can play. I do not blame you. I was reading about someone applying for citizenship recently and she said it made her a nervous wreck as all the time the requirements were changing and month to month she did not know if she would get it. She was an author and had to keep changing the group she was supposed to belong to. The stripping of citizenship and the reality that this is going on virtually without opposition shows the sad case of politics particularly in England. Sorry to say but I suspect the lack of protest may be the English getting English Nationalistic feelings, though for others it possibly is simply that they either do not know or do not know what to do and that of course is allowing all the populous creeps in.
I think you'll find that the Baby Boomers predated Free Love by some considerable time. They have also paid IN for some considerable time longer than that.
