Apparently you buy in to the theory that everything is about the US. It is nice to be acknowledged as a more powerful nation than Russia. Thanks.

Single-handedly? Hardly. This is at bottom a story of NATO expansion pushing ever farther east, until it encountered pushback.

US politicians like Mrs. Clinton love abusing the Hitler analogy. But who is ever on the Drang Nach Osten? And who is now moving its troops into position far outside its own soil in Estonia and Latvia?

Those troops are part of our treaty obligations. As NATO members, the Baltic states are entitled to protection.

He shouldn't start WW3
Не only should return Russian territory from Ukraine which had been lost due to the Bolsheviks , and it is not only and not so much Crimea.

I think only one way to stop the Russian military intervention (in these moments unavoidable):

1st: Changing the Ukrainian Constitution:the introduction of federalism would give to the pro-russian regions a large autonomy from Kiev

2nd: Russian language ought to be co-official language in Ukraine

3rd: To introduce an amendment to the Ukrainian constitution expressly prohibits Ukraine join NATO and/or the European Union.

If these reasonable measures are not accepted, perhaps Russia would be obliged to enforce their commitment: Split or annexation.

Regards

The issue is not NATO but money , 7 years ago our then Pri Minister visited Moscow to debate a loan and immediately he had an attempt against his life, his phone was tapped and his wife fell ill with incurable cancer ( i will not mention that 2% of the country was burnt to the ground since nobody can prove a connection) . There is no way for the neoliberal vultures to leave Ukraine slip away from their grasp .

The only way to stop you, in order to you did not write nonsense, it's just to tell you that
a) Russia is not responsible for the death of Ukraine only US
b) Ukraine only a pawn in a chess game against Russia
c) the state Ukraine has died May 2, 2014. R.I.P Ukraine

Blaming either the west or east with sweeping generalisations is pointless, as the debate becomes one of "my dad can beat your dad up".

None of us know what has really gone on beyond closed doors, but I think we can safely say the political elite of the west and east have been playing their silly games again, games that usually end up with the general workers losing their lives whilst the ruling elite hide in bunkers.

Personally I think whats happening in Ukraine is the final population and boarder adjustment after the soviet Union collapsing, something that happens after each empire collapses.

What we do know is:

The Communist state moved huge populations around to destroy national identities, and this is why all those eastern European countries around Russia have so many Russian speaking peoples.

The soviet Union withdrew boarders and gifted land to make national boarders that never existed before the Soviet Union.

The feeling in Russia is to return traditional lands back into Russian national boarders.

Russia/Putin dreams of building something like the commonwealth of countries that formed the British empire.

The west ignores Russia's concerns and aspirations on most global topics.

The west ignored Russia's concerns and tried to bring Ukraine under western influence.

The west poured money into Ukraine to achieve its political objectives, and unfortunately gave rise to many undesirables like the far right.

Now that the leaders of the east and west have cocked up we see:

The rise of nationalism based along ethnic and religious lines. People attacking their neighbours because they speak Russian or Ukrainian, practice Russian or Ukrainian orthodox

The west and east spewing out propaganda to a level that nobody really knows whats going on.

I think it is safe to say Ukraine will soon split, the east being absorbed into Russia and remaining Ukraine into a state of limbo between Russia and the EU, and forever a basket case of a country.
NATO has now found a new reason to exist, as prior to the Ukraine problem it was struggling to rationalise its existence to countries struggling economically. I think Obama will never recover from this, he was outwitted by Putin and has shown to be weak on global issues i.e. Syria, Arab Spring Rising, Iran and Israel. I think the next USA president will see a return to the hawk, and then the rearming of the west and a more hardline stance towards Russia.

Economically we see the EU discretely putting in plans to ween itself off of Russian gas and oil. The USA is preparing to ship its huge surplus of gas to Europe, and the gas producing countries of the EU are instructed to extract more gas and drill more wells. This is what Obama is talking about when he advises Russia they will suffer more economic sanctions if they make a land grab in Ukraine. Russia is totally dependent on its gas and oil exports and western high tech imports, however Putin states he will find new markets in the far east i.e. China.

The real danger isn't Ukraine, the west has already accepted that battle is lost, the danger is in those countries in eastern Europe with Russian populations such as Lithuania which is a NATO member. Lithuania practices blatant racism towards the Russian speaking peoples in its country, often denying them citizenship and basic rights. These people are asking for Russia's assistance as they become more militant in their demands for human rights and a referendum of splitting from Lithuania and joining Russia.

Russia needs to come back to the civilized world. Respect peoples borders, worry about its own damn $hithole, stop nationalizing media and corporations (Communism), and stop its imperialist ploys. We stopped this stupidity in the 1800's
