Exclusive Photos: Syria's Oldest Synagogue, Destroyed by Assad http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...ia-s-oldest-synagogue-destroyed-by-assad.html As they could commit another savagery against Humans (Jews) it is better it seems to erase the vestiges of their ancestral Synagogue standing there as a sore thumb I am sure, for the hordes of Assad.HB The Jobar Synagogue was one of the holiest Jewish sites in Syria and contained priceless historical artifacts. Now it’s destroyed—and the opposition says Assad is to blame. Please watch the pictures and read the article... what a disheartening sight...
Often times, insurgents use such areas as a place where they can attack with immunity. For example, in Iraq, insurgents staged many attacks from mosques, as the US forbidded their forces from destroying them. So they could shoot, fire mortars, RPGs, keep supplies there, whatever, and we couldn't do anything. The insurgents, the Shia alligned militias and the Sunni, often times destroyed mosques as they fought against each other, and they didn't complain and pour outcries against the fact that their mosques were destroyed, claimming they were at war with Islam. They, the FSA, have attacked from other UN world heritage sites, such as Crusader castles, and love to keep supplies there. Same thing with dense intercity areas. The Libyans would park their tanks in allyways in dense intercity areas, so that we wouldn't destroy them. Some say it's cowardly, but at the end of the day, war is about winning the war, not about being foolishly brave and hence losing the war. Patton once said the point of war is, "Not to die for your country, but make the other ba***** die for his country". If you want to win a war, you must do tactics that are best at acheving it. If the enemy has total air-superiority like in Libya, it's stupid (brave, but stupid brave, almost not even brave, stupid is a correct term) to park your tanks out in the middle of the desert, against a force that has the most powerful airforce in the world.
History and traditions[edit] The synagogue had a plaque stating it was from 720 b.c. and was frequently but incorrectly perceived to be a 2,000-year-old synagogue[1] located in the suburb of Jobar, Damascus The earliest verifiable literary sources indicate that it is at least medieval in origin. It was built in commemoration of the biblical prophet Elijah, and has been a place of Jewish pilgrimage for many centuries.[1][2] It also is the burial-place of a wonder-working sage of the sixteenth century.[3] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobar_Synagogue
Welcome back... I read that you were quitting the Forum, but it is refreshing to see you here again duelling. My question is ... If the Jobar Synagogue from 720 BC has been destroyed by Muslim Arabs (I really do not care what denomination they are) then, it is 'Carte Blanche' for the Jews/Israelis to destroy Haram al Sharif of the Seventh Century AD...? (The Dome of the Rock was constructed by the order of Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik between 689 and 691 CE.) Your retort would be interesting (720 BC vs Seventh Century CE)
Addendum What is Jerusalem for the Arabs and what is it for the Jews (Arab Palestinians Have Begged You tube to Remove This Video) http://www.israelvideonetwork.com/arab-palestinians-have-begged-youtube-to-remove-this-video
First you have to establish it was destroyed as an intentional act against the Jewish faith or was it an unfortunate act of war
I do not have to establish anything but <pragmatism>... The 720 BC Synagogue is no more because the Jews did not destroy it but rather the Muslim/Arabs!!! Sir this is not a toy that you can replace, this is the Arab way of telling the Jews you have no basis here...so move!
I am sorry but am not going to play that game - unless of course you want to accept every time Israeli forces blow up a school in Gaza it is not because a bunch of bad guys are shooting at you - It is because you want to exterminate Arab children
Sorry Sir, this is not so at all. I live here, you have proven you do not!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Israel does not <INITIATE it ONLY RETALIATES> again it does not start any ACTION it only REACTS...
I have been traveling and then moved. Never any intention of quitting the forum. The synagogue seems to be medieval in origins.. I can't imagine why you would want to destroy Haram al Sharif considering the land was vacant for hundreds of years and the mosque was erected to honor the God of Abraham.
have you seen what happens when a picture of Muhammed gets defaced or a cartoon of him is drawn? you should see how mad Muslims get.
Before even attempting to articulate a retort on the subject matter, I will let the statement of P.M. B. Netanyahu explain what transpired <LATELY> in Gaza... Here goes... PM Netanyahu Comments on the IDF-ISA Operation in Gaza (Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this evening (Wednesday, 11 June 2014), made the following remarks about the IDF-ISA operation in the northern Gaza Strip: "Our policy is clear - kill those who rise up to kill us. The IDF and the ISA carried out a precise operation and will continue to take strong action against all those who try to attack the security of Israel's citizens. This is the true face of Hamas; it is continuing to plan terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens even as it inside the Palestinian government. I would like to remind the international community that Abu Mazen - on the day he formed a government with the Hamas terrorist organization - promised to honor all previous agreements. This means that he is responsible for disarming Hamas and the other terrorist organizations of the arsenals in Gaza." =============== IAF strikes target in Gaza, kills Hamas operative following rocket attack By JPOST.COM STAFF 06/11/2014 23:03 http://www.jpost.com/Defense/IAF-strikes-target-in-Gaza-Palestinians-report-casualty-356046 After morning rocket attack on Eshkol, IDF and Shin Bet coordinate airstrike on terror operative planning attacks in Israel; Palestinian media report of casualty. The Israel Air Force struck on Wednesday night a terror target operating in the northern Gaza Strip and planning attacks against Israel. The IDF with the Shin Bet (Israel Security Service) coordinated the strike targeting Jihad Salafist operative Mohammed Adwar, stated IDF spokesman Peter Lerner. Adwar was also being employed by the Hamas police force in Gaza. Palestinian media sources have reported a casualty from in the strike, according to Israel Radio. The IDF spokesman also stated that Adwar was targeted by Israeli forces in a "preemptive strike." The IDF reported that the action prevented Adwar and the Jihadist elements he worked with from realizing their intentions to carry out terrorist plans aimed at Israel. One such plan included the targeting of an Israeli helicopter with anti-aircraft rockets. Adwar was involved in the rocket attacks on April 21 which which targeted Sderot and other southern Israeli communities. Wednesday's airstrike came after a rocket was fired into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip earlier the same day. Israel made clear that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas would be held responsible for such attacks in the wake of the Fatah-Hamas unity agreement. ________________________________________ IMRA - Independent Media Review and Analysis
This is war, buildings get blown up. Plenty of mosques (ancient and modern) have been destroyed. It's silly to compare the destruction of temples in times of war to insulting holy prophets- especially Muhammad.
destroying an ancient house of worship is much worse than drawing a silly cartoon of a stupid make-believe Prophet.
Like I said, it's war. It's very different from intentionally insulting prophets, regardless of what you may believe.
