Another case of government strangling private enterprise. All it needs is the least reason to stick a toe in before it fully enters and establishes rules and regulations written by nameless and unaccountable bureaucrats.

We are producing record amounts of gas and oil and they just now are deciding this? Uh, maybe they might approve it. Don't cross your fingers.

Not sure what you mean by this, I though in some form or another that increasing the production on our soil it would somehow benefit us here an lower OUR energy costs. Having sucked up enough oil to finally export wont increase jobs in any significant level over the long term and if other large producers see it as a problem they just have to cut back on production to keep the worldwide cost of oil where it is now and ensure futures on what they have left.

All you are pointing out is that major companies who already have massive profits, will continue to have them with more reserves than ever to pick from on a worldwide level. Most of the companies that will have access to our exports and the means to deliver them are in the end..... Foreign (Shell, BP, and a conglomerate of state owned producers and refiners.)

If we want to buy low for our increased production of oil reserves, they will sell them to a better market who is willing to pay more for profits.

Mexico Proposes Historic Crude Oil Swap With US
January 08, 2015 — Mexico's state oil company, Pemex, said Thursday that it had proposed an oil swap with the United States, potentially ushering in the first sustained crude imports by Mexico from its northern neighbor after years of self-sufficiency.

Good.. We have an abundance and want to keep the oil and gas industries profitable... so export it and reduce the deficit.

Profits for the oil and gas industry have remained exactly the same for many decades.. at about 6-7% margin..

Consider for a moment that if the ppb falls the US producers will stop buying rigs, stop exploration and drilling.. Another interesting side note is the dramatic uptick in students pursuing degrees in chemical and petroleum engineering.

U.S. oil rises, reversing course after nearing 11-year lows
14 Dec.`15 - U.S. crude rose nearly 2 percent Monday, recovering slightly after moving within a hair of 11-year lows, but analysts and traders said it is still too early to declare the market has reached its bottom.

Oil prices will not go back up until the US ban on oil exports is ended. Plain old Free Market common sense. Let the market establish prices - not some clueless politician or bureaucrat in Washington.

We have a ban on crude oil exports because Republicans say they are not allowed to "drill baby drill". Now when we have a stockpile of crude oil, they want to export it so they can say "drill baby drill" again. Fact of the matter is, we have enough drilling and refining capacity that gas prices are now low. We can export gas (we have been exporting other refined products, including AVGAS, for years) without exporting crude. Why maintain an entire fleet in the Persian Gulf to secure crude oil while we export our own crude oil at the same time? Only a twisted capitalist adventurer who doesn't have to pay for that navy can give us the answer.

Oil up 3 percent after U.S. crude stocks drop, trade thin
23 Dec.`15 - Oil rose more than 3 percent on Wednesday in thin, pre-holiday trading, buoyed by a surprise drop in U.S. crude inventories, but prices stayed near multi-year lows as global supplies remained abundant and OPEC lowered the demand outlook for its exports.

U.S. opens door to oil exports after year of pressure
Tue Dec 30, 2014 | The Obama administration on Tuesday bowed to months of growing pressure over a 40-year-old ban on exports of most domestic crude, taking two steps expected to unleash a wave of ultra-light shale oil onto global markets.
