    0+1 actually equals 2, while simultaneously equalling 3.....

    The number 0 is actually the first number, and thus it represents 1

    The number 1 is actually the second number, and thus it represents 2

    If 1+2=3...Then, 0+1=3

    0 itself represents the concept of a non item, yet it exists and is therefore Not a non item.

    The symbol for 0 represents 1 real number, the number 0

    Thus 0=1

    Because 0=1 and 1=1, then 0+1=2.....

    IN CONCLUSION, 0+1=2=3

    (Interesting side note= 1 represents the phallus, 0 represents the vagina, and when we put them together [or side by side] we get the number 10. The number 10 gives us the Rebirth of our 1 through 9 numbers. Ancient esoteric symbology explained for the uneducated! Who says they've never learned anything on PF?!! You're welcome.)

    sure. I'll give you 0 $100 bill, you give me 1 $100 bill and we'll call it even.

    There is no "first" number since there are an infinite amount of negative numbers that precede zero and an infinite amount of numbers that occur after zero. Also, you can be proved wrong though simple logic. Take one block in your right hand and take zero blocks in your left hand and see if you have two blocks in your hands.

    But given all this 1 would equal 2, not 1. You've just moved the set of the integers one number over.

    There is no objective number system. It's all definitional logic, and thus is abstract. We've assigned the number "1" to denote this many apples **holds up 1 apple**. Counting zero in the set of positive integers doesn't change that. Count however you like, just make sure that when you translate it to common base 10 it all adds up the same.

    This looks to me like typical liberal/progressive math.

    No matter how you fudge it, it makes no sense. :salute:

    There's still a symbol for the Zero blocks in my left hand.

    Since the symbol exists, it must represent some thing.

    Numbers are an abstract imperfect concept, so the debate stays wide open.

    That doesn't mean though that 0+1=2. Zero is the symbol for nothing. Nothing plus something does not make two of something.
    And numbers are not imperfect concepts. 2+2 is ALWAYS 4. 7-4 is ALWAYS 3. ||+||| is ALWAYS |||||. It doesn't matter what language you speak, what culture you come from or your political persuasion, the numbers are always the same.

    0 doesn't necessarily mean nothing. 0 degrees Fahrenheit means something, and it means something different from 0 degrees Celsius, which is also something. 0 degrees Celsius + 0 degrees Celsius = 64 degrees Fahrenheit. 0 degrees Fahrenheit + 0 degrees Fahrenheit = -35.5 degrees Celsius. It's just a matter of perspective and relative dimensions.

    Sometimes in physics it's easier to make the speed of light in a vacuum = 1, rather than 3.8x10^8 m/s. Sometimes it's easier to make Newton's Constant = 1, or Planck's Constant = 1, or whatever constant makes the equations easier. In general zero is just an integer between -1 and 1. Math is pure, it doesn't discriminate between something and nothing :).

    7+0=7

    The fact that you did an operation on the number 7 by adding some thing to it, and then coming out with a result, regardless of the fact that the result is the same as the original number, demonstrates you've affected the number 7.

    Plus, we're talking about symbols, and this set of symbols: 7+0=7 does indeed feature two real integers or real numbers adding together to reach a third Total sum.

    Some thing, 0, was added to 7

    The symbols you're using can represent anything you care to define them as representing in a given context (including the "+" and "="). If you want what you're writing to have any understandable meaning though, you need to either consistently use a known set of symbols or individually identity the set that each symbol is in.

    This applies in the real world with different number base systems (base-10, base-16 hexadecimal, base-2 binary etc.). You can have sums using a mix of bases but you need to identify which base each figure is in or a reader won't be able to understand it.

    If your system is shifting the conventional numbers by one (so 0=1, 1=2, 2=3 etc.), you either need to use that set for the whole calculation;

    In the VB system, 0+1=3

    or identify where you're changing the system;

    0(VB) + 1(VB) = 2 (normal) = 3(VB) = "twenty seven medium-sized aardvarks"(HJ)

    I'm not shifting all numbers one integer to the right.

    I'm demonstrating the abstract nature of the symbols themselves.

    The reason my proposal works is because we're talking about Numbers.

    On top of that, I must remind you that my proposal does not extend outside the range of 0 to 3.

    In that case you're explaining yourself really badly. You don't seem to be saying anything new and I don't see any fundamental point you're aiming at.
