More on this "progressive" government-funded surveillance operation, which will expire after this election cycle in 2015:

“shady machinery of high-profile congressional campaigns"

Of course, there's nothing shady about this surveillance program...

In 2008 Ezra Klein created the 400 member journolist, a listserv of writers and editors, calling themselves the "Unofficial Campaign To Elect Barack Obama" and shape the national discourse. In 2014 Klein formed the 1000 member VOX with the objective of shaping the national discourse. Of course the study will ignore whatever Kleins operatives do.
What else could possibly go wrong?

Sounds like something our progressive friends would heartily endorse and support... as long as a Democrat is in office. Imagine if this had been proposed when GWB was still President?

So, I'm guessing these tweeters have been investigated and charged with hate crimes...

Democrat Clay Aiken tried to delete offensive and violent tweets

    White House Official Tweets N-Word

Samuel L. Jackson goes on a racist anti-GOP tweet rant

So that means that people like Spike Lee and Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Melissa Harris Perry, and leftwingers et. al are going to be in trouble or instead is a low melanin only hate talk filter going to be applied as the sole criteria?

OMG. How can we survive this presidency which has 2 more years to go? Longest 6 years EVER!!!! This president wants to do nothing but screw this country over. I cannot believe some of this stuff....but each day there comes some new revelation about how badly he is stomping all over the U.S. Constitution. I'll bet our Founding Fathers and passed president are turning over in their graves!!

"The database will reportedly include searches for “suspicious memes,” “false and misleading ideas” and will place particular focus on online political activity. (SO WATCH OUT POLITICAL FORUM) :) :) It's "1984" and big government is watching you......

The $1 million Truthy database will be created by Indiana University researchers. The taxpayer-funded database is designed to “detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution,” according to the Washington Free Beacon." AND he's making us, the people, pay for it!!

God help us!! Protect us from this man who holds the office of the presidency right now....

True but I see no reason for the government to set up software to actively monitor what it does and does not like on twitter. That's going overboard. It's unnecessary and dangerous.

    Then why track them?

I'm guessing so that the people in charge (liberals) can pick and chose who to investigate.

You know, investigate only the righties and not the lefties.

It will be used or it is absolutely pointless, and Obama would never waste another tool to ruin America and it's freedoms...

people put hate speech in the public and then complain that the public notices... crazy, keep your hate speech to yourself if you do not want people to know about your dark side

Except the government will decide what is or isn't 'hate speech', and for all we know that could include dissent over policy. If such a thing were to be done one would expect there was an actual law on the books that at least set parameters and oversight requirements. As it is, its a tool to gather information for unknown purposes and without any apparent legal justification or oversight. You might not think its to harmless when your side isn't in power...

hate speech is still protected speech.

unpopular speech needs to be protected moreso than popular speech.

being 'allowed' to tweet "today is a beautiful day" is not really freedom

tweeting "George W/Obama is a war criminal and should be impeached" may or may not be "misinformation" based on your opinion, and should never get you on a list that can be used by political opponents for targetting. I mean, it's pretty clear, that Obama would NEVER use govt agencies to target groups that posed a threat to his vision *cough - IRS - cough*

tweeting a monkey meme of Bush or Obama is not a hate speech

hell, calling Obama the n-word should be allowed by the govt

yes, but when you make something public... it's just that public... were not talking about arresting people for hate speech, but if later you accused of a hate crime, and your in the database it will be used against you in a court of law I am sure

On the contrary, the administration is owned a doubly harsh condemnation.
