One always has to be very, very careful where the money they donate to charities really goes. Here's an example:

Just a third of Tower poppy cash is going to help our heroes: So who WILL be pocketing the rest?

Stunning war memorial will eventually include 888,246 ceramic poppies

Hundreds of thousands of people have paid £25 for their own flower

But only a third of the money is expected to go to good causes

Just £8.75 from each poppy will go to charity, while £12.08 will cover 'costs'

One must very carefully investigate any group asking for donations to "help others" to see just how much of your donation they are taking for themselves.

The only two charities I donate to are the USA and Wounded Warriors.

I only donate cash, because I don't want to be pestered forever more.

I've seen the poppies at the Tower and the sight is heart stopping. My friends and I couldn't speak. I shall go again early November when the planting is finished.

edit: I disbelieve everything the Daily Mail prints until proven otherwise on principle. A dirty little rag.

Charity should be abolished - let govts/people sort out their own problems

There was a time when I donated a small amount from my pension every month between several charities but when they began to ask for more than I could afford I began to feel guilty about my little donation but then when they started sending me free pens, address labels, little place mats (cup sized) and other things I stopped paying.

the whole thing is a scam, especially aid money to 3rd World nations - nothing other than the propping up of cronies abroad, and the soft power of liberal colonialists
