Worried about a lethal pandemic disease spreading to the United States? Obviously, Obama isn't! You can't make this stuff up:
    http://online.wsj.com/articles/u-s-military-to-send-3-000-to-battle-ebola-virus-1410840310
    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-sending-3000-military-personnel-to-fight-ebola-in-west-africa/

If you think there is no danger to the United States, please at least read this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2862337/

We would make far better use of 3,000 troops by putting them on our southern border to defend this nation from illegal alien invaders than sending them into the Ebola zone of Africa!

What a dichead. I pray that our troopers stay safe. Wonder what the quarantine process is going to be for returning soldiers.

Good God! What is the man thinking? The American military is supposed to kill foreigners, not save them, for crying out loud!

Where in hell is the UN? Oh that's right they are making speeches. Where is the UK, France, Spain, where is Norway, Sweden and Russia and other countries? Do they think they have immunity? We have enough problems with ISIS and terrorists and Obama.

What quarantine process? They will get the same lame VA care they have been receiving. Nothing extra, nothing special. That is...if you can even GET any care in the first place. There is no way the government will airlift soldiers that test positive for Ebola all the way back here to have them treated at the CDC. Nope...not going to happen. Sad.:frown:

Look on the bright side - this is only going to cost $750 million.

You may be more right than you realize. I think this is a backdoor to getting troops on the ground in Iraq.

So is this illiteracy, general ignorance or wilful dishonesty? Basically, do any of you understand the distinction between "military personnel" and "troops"?

We already have troops on the ground in Iraq!

    1,600 Boots on the Ground

Oh yeah? What happened to the “No boots on the ground!” statement?

Well, here's a story about what those boots are doing @ https://feedly.com/index.html#subscription/feed/http://nation.time.com/feed/

And, it does suggest there are a whole lot more “CIA contractors” actually engaged in combat.

Can we believe ANYTHING the Obama administration tells us?

Ebola outbreak: Barack Obama 'to pledge US troops to fight virus'

3,000 American military personnel sent to fight a plague with a 95% death rate!

Is the man in the Oval Office [when not playing golf} nuts? This is too outrageous to even consider! Any why just Liberia when Sierra Leone and Guinea are the worst-hit with over 2,400 known deaths.

And you are such an Obamabot that you think he'll send 3,000 doctors, nurses, and other health professionals WITHOUT providing a security force?

I cannot believe I am defending Obama but you guys are all really shortsighted. Ebola is a huge threat and one that we cannot ignore. Which would you prefer fight Ebola in Africa or fight Ebola in Detroit? Because those are your options, if this virus gets out of control and spreads to other continents. I know you don't like the guy and most of the time he makes bad decisions and in this case he did. His bad decision was not sending in personnel earlier. Ebola is a much larger threat to our country then any foreign group or power. A Virus cannot be reasoned with and it will spread if we allow it.

I agree also.....If you are going to have a war on something ebola is a fine candidate. To me this makes since. I would also suggest POTUS create a coalition effort instead of going it alone.

What happens when some of the 3,000 are infected and return to the U.S.?

I kinda think that's where most of the responders are coming from.

They get quarantined and taken care of. Unlike those African countries we have the knowledge, expertise, and facilities to insure that the virus does not spread. Also we can know if some one is infected before they get back. Staying away and locking our doors will not get rid of this disease. Only combatting it head on will achieve that. Kind of like how the black death did not stop just because some towns locked their gates. We cannot ignore this problem and Africa cannot solve it.

He and Eric "My People" Holder would rather support their fellow blacks.

I wonder what the army is going to do, though? Shoot at the Ebola virus? Why not send medical trained personnel?

Our military is capable of doing almost any job. These would be specialist in the field of bio emergencies. I have friend in the Marines that actually does this as his job. So apparently the defense department has already considered this as a problem and trained groups of our soldiers to take care of it.

Neither can Terrorists, but you do know that sending troops to the infected areas is a far greater risk? Hello, spreading germs, tactile contact, etc? So, what should we do?

What we're obligated to do: Protect the border and screen the affected Nations.

That is ridiculous we cannot very well subject every foreign national that enters the united states to a blood test and then have them wait at the airport until we get the results. Also, yes it is a far greater risk for those 3000. But is is a much greater risk for America and the world if it gets out of control and leaves that continent. Think of the big picture man not just political talking points and rhetoric. We are protecting the border by fighting the disease where it is at not waiting for it to appear here. Fight the battle on the enemies soil so that your own people do not need to suffer.

Obama has been all about having the U. S. be a part of an international coalition in everything, preferably at the big "menstruation hut" known as the UN. He hasn't wanted to U. S. to do anything on our own, by ourselves, so why now, just because it's Africa and everything, does the United States have to lunge headlong, all alone, into a gigantic, festering third-world toilet full of this highly-lethal, virturally incurable disease?

We can help. We can provide research and development for medicines and vaccines that will eventually tame this disease. But it is MADNESS to just plop 3,000 military personnel of ANY variety right smack in the middle of this mess. But, well... it is Africa and everything....

I make no distinction between people who are being sent right into the middle of an area of the planet that full of this horrible disease. It is reckless, it is irresponsible, it shows complete disdain and disregard for the 3,000 human beings-in-uniform (or whatever you think they should be called). We should declare any area of the planet with an Ebola pandemic in progress to be OFF LIMITS to all Americans, and issue a warning that any American who disregards this quarantine and deliberately goes into one of these countries will NOT be allowed back inside the United States until/unless they can prove that they are totally free of the disease!

The Weekly Standard asked why we need to use troops for this and not some sort of non-military organization. It begs the question of just what the troops are going to be able to do to help, the only thing I can really come up with is they would shoot people who try to leave quarantine zones.

It is further speculated that the troops will be armed to the teeth to keep the infected masses from overrunning the "treatment centers" in complete chaos. Mark my words: we will be bringing infected military personnel back to the United States from this idiotic mission, and Americans will die....

In your smarmy reply you nearly made a valid point. Please tell me why our army should be deployed for this purpose. Tell me how this is an appropriate use of our military forces.
