    Too many on this forum refer to the trash-can gang fights in the Middle east as “civil war.”

    Today is the 152nd anniversary of a bloody day in a REAL civil war. Sharpsburg /Antietam.

    22,000 dead in a single day. Middle easterners might fight for a year and not take that many battle casualties.

    Antietam/Sharpsburg was real civil war fought by real soldiers. Nothing of the sort has been seen in the Middle East since the First World War.

    We usually call it the war of Northern Aggression. But your point is well taken.
    Also, we take out despots all the world over. Yet our 16th President set the precedent and formula for waging war on our own people. To the tune of 3/4 of a million men.

    Some historians say more like a million. That's almost 5% of the pre-war population.

    The folks in the Middle East are pikers by comparison.

    I appreciate the point, but the only reference I've seen to Civil War is Syria. That's the real deal.
    As for comparing our own capacity for inhumanity to theirs, I can only say that I am very glad that I don't have your mind set.

    I'm not going to refight the Civil War.

    I'm just constantly amazed at the number of people in 2014 that still think that the north started the hostilities.

    You all down there in FL. keep on keepin' on.

    On a serious note here, I always wondered how Abraham Lincoln felt knowing he was responsible for the deaths of so many people? As for Kerry's blasts about Assad killing his own people, well isn't Poroshenko doing that, and haven't we been helping them?

    But it's not about what one does, it's about 'winning'. So if Washington can support Nazis and terrorists, and the controlled media can convince them we're supporting the 'good' guys, then what's the problem? After all politics the name, and deceit's the game. :frustrated:

    All a civil war is a war between factions of the same nation. Definitely the war or wars going on in the middle east do count as civil war or wars.

    Street gang wars are fights between factions within a nation. Real civil wars involve big armies, not thugs who behead civilians.

    Nah, there have been many generals who could be credited with starting modern warfare. Alexander, for one. Bomber Harris and Curtis Lemay are others. They all understood that you don't win wars with precision weapons or drones, and you don't win wars by trying to 'democratize' everybody. You blow (*)(*)(*)(*) up until somebody waves a flag and is depending on you for their next meal.
