    The day has finally arrived.
The arguing from both sides is over and all there is to do now is wait and see what Scotland decides.
Whatever happens , I wish the people of Scotland all the best.

Early Scotland referendum results suggest voters reject independence
September 19, 2014 ~ Voters in Scotland turned out in unprecedented numbers for an independence referendum and early results suggested they were not in favor of ending Scotland's 307-year union with England.

A Scottish 'Yes' also means exit from EU, NATO
September 15, 2014 — If Scottish voters this week say Yes to independence, not only will they tear up the map of Great Britain, they'll shake the twin pillars of Western Europe's postwar prosperity and security - the European Union and the U.S.-led NATO defense alliance.

Fear has won the day. I am sorry for a people who do not have the pride of their forbears. We now have the government we deserve, lord preserve us, thanks to the gutless NO voters of my own generation.
Well done to all the forward looking youngsters who came out to vote no matter which side they voted for. They had nothing to compare with, but the older voters had. Black burning shame on all of you oldies who voted no or couldn't be bothered voting, but who have heard all the lies and seen all the broken promises of the past. Remember the iniquitous poll tax. You screamed for independence then. Remember the rejected assembly in 1979, and the promises made before the closure of almost every industry in Scotland, the thousands upon thousands flung on the scrapheap a couple of years later and the the calls for independence in the terrible Thatcher years. Short memories indeed you oldies.
I was outside the polling station on the day and heard one old farmer say that he was voting no because not only might it endanger his subsidies but it would be far too inconvenient to have to reapply for new licences and othe paperwork. Says it all. Convenience and self before Country. 'Great Scots'? Proud Scots? An almost exticinct species now I am afraid.

You should be thanking your lucky stars that sense prevailed.

Practically everything the SNP claimed was untrue.

On the contrary Lil, the UK government are and always have been the liars who brought the rise of nationalism about.

SNP are the liars. They promised that an independent Scotland would be a land of milk and honey, funded by money that they didn't have, and they couldn't tell anyone where that money would come from (the oil would never have funded anything because the amount spent on Scotland's huge, bloated, generous welfare system is three times that of the annual North Sea oil receipts).

The SNP and the Yes campaign's biggest lies were over "Scotland's" oil (oil that was only able to be retrieved thanks to English subsidies and English-based companies like BP).

One of Scotland's leading North Sea oil businessmen, Sir Ian Wood, spoke out during the referendum campaign, claiming that Salmond's mob had deliberately exaggerated oil reserves by up to 60%.

In an intervention that was damaging to the Yes campaign, Sir Ian said oil reserves would be down to “very low levels” by 2050 and warned that offshore oil and gas “cannot figure significantly” in Scotland’s medium-term economic calculations.

He also predicted that an independent Scotland would have had to import energy from England as North Sea oil declines and the UK becomes more reliant on shale gas deposits in England.

“I believe the debate should not be about nationalism, but growth and economic success, and the quality of life for citizens and all that goes with that,” Sir Ian told the Energy Voice website. “Against these measures, it’s very hard not to conclude the case is heavily weighted towards Scotland remaining in the UK and getting the best of both worlds – I want the best for future generations of Scots.”

Sir Ian said his knowledge of the oil industry was relevant to the debate.

The Scottish Government had made much of potential income from the North Sea when making its case for independence.

Sir Ian said that 43 billion barrels of oil and gas had so far come from Scotland’s offshore industry. He said estimates of what was still to come from the North Sea varied between 12 billion and 24 billion barrels – noting that Mr Salmond’s “most quoted central prediction” was the 24 billion figure.

Based on work he did for his Wood Review, the UK government study he conducted to maximise the potential of the North Sea, Sir Ian said: “Even with a more sympathetic tax and regulation framework, the likely best outcome, without new hydrocarbon regions being discovered, is between 15 billion and 16.5 billion barrels.

“The Scottish Government central prediction of what’s still to come is between 45 per cent and 60 per cent too high.”

He added that the Scottish Government’s prediction of £7bn per year in income from oil and gas revenues over the next five years was 40 per cent too high. He said: “The shortfall of £2bn per annum will have a significant impact on Scotland’s short-term economic case – potentially £370 less for every man, woman and child every year.”

He added that the Wood Review clearly indicated that most operators believed Scotland would attract more investment if it remained in the UK.

On renewables, Sir Ian argued that independence would see Scotland lose UK pricing subsidies and warned that the rest of the UK could import cheaper electricity from the continent.

The decline in oil and the rise in the English shale gas industry would change the energy map over the next 50 years. “This could see Scotland having to import hydrocarbons from England at significant cost to our balance of payments,” he said.

It is the SNP who were the liars in the independence referendum. Not only that, but they partook in gerrymandering by allowing 16 and 17 year old to take part in the referendum. The SNP believed by allowing these CHILDREN to vote it would swing the result their way as most of them would be in favour of independence. But it backfired, as it turned out that most 16 and 17 year olds are against independence.

No,actually. Around three quarters of them voted for independence.

Imagine that. The future of millions could have been decided by the whims of a bunch of spotty school kids.

I am truly amazed at the 'facts' people who don't live in Scotland can quote on here about Scotland and the referendum. Wow. What mind reading abilities you have.
No. on second thoughts, I am not really amazed, just finding it ludicrous and humourous the way you just talk your rubbish with no knowledge of very much.
I would however, have thought that Diamond Lil, living in such close proximity to Scotland, might have known a bit more than she appears to. I can only assume that Lil comes from around the London area or the southern counties of England where all the wealth is shared to the detriment of the rest of the UK.
