No matter what the outcome of todays Scottish independence elections will be, there will always be more fight in one of the voter camps and thus in both (an opposition will cause more fight in a coalition, or visa versa) If the No camp wins the elections, you will see more fight in the Yes camp, and visa versa, because the outcome can be a close to call. The political and propaganda wars will only increase after today, because this struggle for independence via politics is about populism, because no population will have indepedence by a mass political process and fight between the Yes and No camps, or a winning camp (because a camp means movement, and movements do not lead to peace, freedom and independence)
We had a referendum on leaving Britain and forming a Republic - we voted against it. The government insists the matter is settled, but we all know we're going to have to confront it eventually.
Are you saying that you consider the institute of the Referendum a problem? I don't see it as a potential source of social tenses. Scottish people is well more peaceful that others and about leaving the United Kingdom or staying in it, I guess that, a part some regions of the High Lands [where they Highlanders don't use English when they meet travelers from England!], in case of victory of "NO" there won't be particular consequences. And if the "YES" win, they will be too focused on how to nationalize the oil fields in front of Aberdeen to think to start an internal social confrontation ...
The Independence movement may be down for the moment but anyone who believes it's gone for good is a fool.
