You don't understand the symbolism of the float, do you? And you don't know much about the history of oppression in Palestine.

You don't understand that children in NYC don't need to see this sort of symbolism at a parade do you? The theme of this parade was "Islam and America share common values"

Of course the article you posted states it had no idea what this was about, and considering how easy it was for me to find an answer, no interest in finding out either. Much better to use the image to slur Muslims.

I do find it strange that anyone would want to parade with a depiction of execution, but then again I understand some people use a effigy of a crucified man to represent their religion, strange as it must seem to anyone who does not understand the symbolism..

I don't suppose it occurred to you that NOBODY knew what the hell this was about because there was no explanation whatsoever to it, and it is completely inappropriate and out of place for a public parade? The interpretations of its meaning and symbolism are just that. "Some New Yorkers and tourists" were confused? Everyone was confused, because there was ZERO explanation... just a group of extremely out of touch muslims attempting to highlight our similarities with the muslim world.

The message was an epic fail. It would be like trying to show a child why they should be kind by setting someone on fire to show how sad it is.

I think it is entirely appropriate. Is it appropriate for a child to watch the news? Is it appropriate for a child to watch violent entertainment or play first person shooter games?

the fact that some people had a kneejerk reaction and were ignorant what was being represented is their problem. A female mannequin being hung while swathed in an Egyptian flag has a pretty obvious meaning. A woman in a cage in a Muslim parade also represents primary school level symbolism.

I never found it difficult to explain to my pre-pubescent children about the realities of the world.
I directly addressed the parade "floats" as POLITICAL expression concerning liberty and human rights which are things I think should that most definitely NOT be sheltered from children. Unless of course the parents are too ignorant, disinterested or stupid to comprehend the issues in the first place.

OTOH, I do agree the porn is for older kids that have at least grown some pubic hair. And running with scissors, getting into cars with or opening the door to strangers, glorifying smoking/drug taking, sticking their tongues in electrical outlets, playing with matches, crossing the street without looking both ways, not letting anyone touch their junk and the myriad of other physical threats to their well being should be part of parenting 101.

It is strange what people take as cultural norms and think sutible for children.
In the UK when I was a kid, November 5th was one of my favourite nights.
Burn the Catholic Night, complete with Guy, bonfire and fireworks!

It was this sort of thing, that as I grew up made me question religion.
Different cultures can seem very strange, but I try to understand before condemning.
