    When voting in November.....remember "In Mary Landrieu’s world, a $2.5 million house is ‘not a mansion’

    Only 7,316 sq feet? A mere shack! I wonder how many sq feet it takes before she considers it a mansion. The squre footage of the average American home is 2,392, three times smaller than Mary Landrieu's house. But, her house isn't a mansion AND it's not even in Louisaina, it's in Washington, D.C.

    I'm sure she knows everything going on in her state from 1500 miles away by closely monitoring Facebook and Twitter. Sheeeez, it appears she doesn't even live in the state she represents, why does she even bother pretending she lives there anymore? 50 years ago Ronald Reagan warned of this happening......

    I think Mary Landrieu IS one of the little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol that think they can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves? Louisiana do you think Mary Landrieu can plan your life for you better than you can plan them yourselves? Tell her in the voting booth Nov 4th.

    UPDATED: How many homes John McCain owns became an unlikely campaign issue on Aug. 20, 2008, when he told the Politico Web site that he didn't know the answer.
    "I think — I'll have my staff get to you," McCain told Politico in Las Cruces, N.M. "It's condominiums where — I'll have them get to you."
    It's not hard to see how McCain got confused. The McCain family owns properties in multiple states under several names.
    We checked this issue earlier when it was raised on the campaign trail by Barack Obama's top strategist, David Axelrod. Axelrod was arguing that the McCain campaign is guilty of hypocrisy in trying to paint Obama as an elitist.
    "Obviously, his strategists met on the portico of the McCain estate in Sedona — or maybe in one of his six other houses — and decided what line of attack they were going to use," Axelrod told Adam Nagourney of the New York Times.
    The Democratic National Committee has also attacked McCain as being out of touch. In an Aug. 12 news release called "Seven Months of Job Losses for Americans, Seven Houses for McCain," the DNC said McCain fails to understand the economic difficulties of Americans. Bloggers have repeated the claim and created video tours of the McCain properties.
    Initially we confirmed that McCain owns seven homes, but Politico found a third condo that the McCains own in Phoenix, which we missed, and that brings the total to eight. One of their properties, a ranch in Sedona, also has multiple buildings on it that could be counted as additional homes. We count it as one.
    The property is owned under several names, including limited liability companies and family trusts.
    Public records connect these entities to Cindy McCain, chairwoman of Hensley & Co, a huge Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship that was founded by her parents.
    Here's a rundown of the properties and how we get to our total.
    1. The largest home is a creekside ranch near Sedona, Ariz., spread over more than six acres. That's where McCain entertained vice presidential prospects, including Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, over Memorial Day weekend. Records from Yavapai County Assessor's Office show it includes three houses and is worth about $1.1-million. CNN reported that McCain said there are six houses on the property. The owner is listed as the Cindy Hensley McCain Family Trust. If McCain is correct that there are six houses on the property and you counted each one, the total homes owned would rise to 13 (though again, when pressed by Politico about properties, McCain said he wasn't sure).
    2. and 3. In nearby Phoenix, Cindy McCain owns two combined condo units worth about $1.7-million. They're part of the Residences at 2211 Camelback, which bills itself as "The Valley of the Sun's finest example of life beyond the expected" at "the most preferred urban residential address in the prestigious Camelback Corridor." Wild River Rental LLC, which records show is controlled by Cindy McCain, owns another unit in the building, which was purchased in 2007 for $830,000. (This is the unit we missed in our first go round.)
    4. In Arlington, Va., the McCains live in a three-bedroom high-rise condo worth $847,800, property records show.
    5. They also own a condo in La Jolla, Calif., that's worth more than $1-million. The building overlooks a park and the Pacific Ocean.
    Records also link the McCains to three other residences.
    6. Wild River Rental LLC, the company controlled by Cindy McCain, is listed as the owner of Phoenix condo worth more than half a million dollars. The McCains bought the condo for their daughter Meghan, according to a story in GQ magazine and confirmed through a public records search. The reporter compared the inside to "a spaceship furnished by West Elm. There's a giant silver chimney that extends out of her fireplace into the ceiling about twenty feet above."
    7. and 8. Dream Catcher Family LLC, a domestic corporation formed by the McCain family, owns two condos in a beachfront complex in Coronado, Calif. Tax records show one is valued at $2.7-million. The other was purchased this year, according to sales records. A sales price was not available.
    The Obama campaign has released two ads since McCain's gaffe saying that McCain owns seven homes. The Obama campaign doesn't mention that trusts and companies controlled by Cindy McCain generally own the properties. And their count is off by one; the McCain family actually owns eight.
    We'll be monitoring this property issue as the campaign goes on. It's possible that there are other properties owned by corporate entities related to the McCains of which we are not aware.
    As we re-examined this claim after confirming the eighth property, we've come to a slightly different conclusion about the true ownership of the homes. Because there is indirect ownership here, though these are clearly the McCains' homes, we rule the statement Mostly True.

    If you'd bothered to read the Politifact article you would have seen that Sen. McCain wasn't the one being dishonest about it. He wasn't poor mouthing himself as a downtrodden poor person who was flat broke, lived in a modest five-bathroom home, and grew up as a poor black child attending fancy private schools.

    Citing a hit piece as you whine about honesty is a bit ironic.

    there is a 2 million dollar house in the neighborhood across the street that I would not call a mansion. When I think of mansion I think of of much bigger places. Now some friends have a $20 million house that is indeed a mansion.

    My and your houses would be considered "mansions" to the rest of the World. If you are not living in a cardboard box or a sheet metal shanty...you live in a mansion. Enjoy your blessings.

    Yes. It's not the semantics in play but the attempt to appear different than that is honest.

    Is it a large boat or a yacht ?

    Reminds of hypocrite librul darling Cherokee professor Elizabeth Warren , who while bashing the wealthy was paid $350,000 to teach one class at Harvard and asked reporters not to make mention of her "mansion" during an interview there, as her wealth proved inconvenient to to her message.

    Which only adds to the well placed distrust of our DC elites who actually want us to believe they're dedicated public servants. Yes, Landrieu's pathetic, but she's just one of many who we the people are foolish enough to elect.

    I never understood why the general public criticizes politicians for living luxurious lifestyles. They make the money so they live in nicer houses than most of us do...

    If they make millions are they supposed to go out and buy a 2 bedroom townhouse just so they can be like "you"?

    Tax dollars pay my salary as well and I reap the rewards of the money I make. I don't purposefully live way below my means just to be "fair" to the rest of the people living in this relatively low income small town...

    The point is her beautiful house isn't IN Louisiana, it's in DC. She lists her home in Louisiana at her parents address. Who well can she represent the people of Louisiana when it appears she doesn't even live there?

    I have no idea the particulars of WHERE Landrieu has her house in DC or nearby but there are 1 bedroom condos in DC now for 1/2 mill. $ EASY! My boss had a townhouse on Capitol Hill--$500k and it wasn't that great. That was 30 YEARS AGO.

    We had bumper stickers down here in Florida about that very subject. Since he had his 7 or 8 houses and he and PALIN came to Florida screaming drill baby drill,
    our stickers read (I forgot the exact wording)...

    Precisely. Just like Santorum did! He spent no time back in PA, owned no property. Just like Mary Cheney used her daddy's Wyoming residence to run for Senator and never lived a day in Wyoming. Her daddy took the 2 girls to Texas and then to DC after their births. Hell, ROMNEY'S address in MA when he was running for president was one of his son's houses. He had sold his MASS house several years before he decided to run. Good news though, Romeny had a house in VT (or NH) and another in Salt Lake City and bought another in CA about the time he was running. He could use any of them. Well not technically, CAUSE HE HADN'T PAID TAXES in a couple of states he was supposed to have PAID TAXES INT.

    I'm VERY surprised there was any dirt left there. And she got a steal at $200k for any dirt. Having said that, SE Capitol street, if I remember correctly was
    a bit 'dicey'. Though that was A LONG time ago when I lived and worked there (80-85) and I am sure ANYTHING within a couple of miles of Capitol Hill has all been gentrified.

    You do of course realize Romney was running for POTUS not POM. McCain did have a house in AZ. Also they are not running in this cycle. The stories you are bringing up do not matter now.

    Most things in DC are dicey even if expensive. Yes it is gentrified. The proposed assessment on their house is $300K more than it is for this year if that gives you any idea. I looked at it on google street view. Definitely a cleaned up part of Capitol Hill.

    I think she was always a spoiled little liberal Daddy's girl. She doesn't relate to the poor people she supposedly represents; she uses them. It will be close...but I'd like to NOT see her face around anymore. :)
