I didn't want to cut and past the entire article, but it is so worth the read. The article is at least a year or two old, but with the mid-term elections on the horizon and seeing many of those horrible GOP candidates that actually have a shot at a Senate seat, it seems timely to wish for a final split between red and blue. I cringe at the thought of those candidates, if elected, having influence over the entire country with their back-assward polices and votes in the Senate/Congress.

One problem is that not everyone in the slave states are angry and bitter old white guys. Once you subtract single women, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Jews, gays, college educated, urbanites, you have a fairly substantial - albeit very committed - minority. Those other groups wouldn't go quietly into the true patriot time machine.

LMAO. Yeah, good luck. See, here's the problem. You liberals already fully know this, but you're too stubborn to publicly admit it. Liberals NEED conservatives. However, we don't need you. Who's gonna fund all your social programs? Who's gonna pay for your 'free' healthcare? Let's take a look at what the two country's would look like shall we?

    Conservative states would have:

    Low tax rates
More businesses due to lower tax rates
    Harder workers
We'll take all that evil oil you clowns are always complaining about
We'll have the bulk of the military, since libs hate them. Along with that, retired vets and the majority of law enforcement would come to our states since you hate them too.
    We'll also have armed citizens
Crime will be low due to a robust economy, law enforcement, armed citizens, etc.

Liberal states would have (as the idiot in the article stated):

    High taxes
    High welfare
    Unfriendly business environment
    'Clean' energy. lol
Rampant crime due to no jobs, little law enforcement, no armed citizens, millions of illegal immigrants, high drug use, etc, etc
You can have your little electric cars (good luck with them in the northern winters), abortions on demand, gay marriages. Everyone can sit around all day looking at their 'art', smoking dope, and wondering if you'll get invaded by Grenada before you turn into a worse version of Columbia.

So in short, we'll have business, oil, military, strong agriculture, armed citizens, and closed borders.
You'll have, high taxes, no jobs, high welfare, a ton of unsustainable social programs, gay marriage, legal drugs, high crime, and fine art.

I'd take my chances in the conservative states.

Nine of the top ten states which receive more FROM the evil Federal government than it contributes are - sit down - red. And every slave state TAKES more than it gives. There is a reason why the slave states lead the country in most social pathologies.

No one said it would be easy, but nothing worth having ever is. The way I see it, too many things are being held up or held back and that is not the natural order and flow of the way the universe works. The economic and social issues are weighed down and oppressive due to the radical right ideology. If it does not feel right, it's not right. IMO...the union has long outlived its purpose.

Why would any Red states secede if they have a shot at taking back the Senate? It seems they are just waiting for the democratic party to continue it's implosion. That way this country can get back to prosperity and progress and drag people like you into this century instead of living in the 60's with the liberal prog ideology.

That's what's wrong with you socialists. You rely on 'feelings' rather than facts. All one need do is show an image of a sad puppy or child, and you well up with tears, and demand that the government steal money from the productive to give to the unproductive. Only you call it social responsibility through taxation.

    Of course.
Thou shalt not question the wisdom of thy Marxist overlords. They know what is best for the peasants. Peasants are stupid and must have the government tell them what is good for them, what to like and what to hate. They will dictate what is offensive, and what is a compliment, because you have no brain to think and decide your own fate. .

Another liberal living in Disney World.
While listing all the wonderful things 'progressives' would bring to the table, you forgot to mention pedophelia (yea, they're already pushing for it now), and beastiality as normal, protected lifestyles.

I guess some of you guys really believe this, just imagine what would happen when the south stopped all welfare and all of those inner city people came running north. Then you're attempting a bunch of European policies with 2x the welfare people and hoping for a better result than what Europe gets... to top it off, you think having this as a plan makes you smart.

So thoroughly debunked in these forums over and over that you have a burden to demonstrate it when you repeat this particular leftist lie narrative, or just be complete hot air and BS. The only "slave state" is between your ears.

To the topic, nothing in the Daily Beast, and certainly not the OP article, is "so worth reading." Article is just the same old stale anti-South bigotry rehashed. Insert "Jews" for South in the article and see -exactly- what this is. Without 3-4 states, Cali, NY, Ill, Mass, the modern Democratic Party would instantly cease to exist. It's most of the other 46 states, not "the South" who are fed up with the tyranny of urban blight population dictating this country's foolish policies. Even so, you only see the nonleft peddling the actual truth of this reactively to garbage such as contained in the OP, almost never proactively. Adults know better.

Your first line lost me, and I hate the social right and I'm not a Southerner. As a gun owner I say go (*)(*)(*)(*) yourself when it comes to your odd need to take away my right to keep and bear firearms. Keep yourself wrapped arround that bull(*)(*)(*)(*) and you'll find support lacking.

Sometimes the problem with the unemployed is THEM although we shipped most of the factory jobs overseas so many have nothing left but Fast Food or to milk the Welfare system

Conservatives and conservative run states have figured out that lower taxes means lower taxes for state residents to send to Washington...does not mean what they ask for in Federal funds.

It is an awesome bookkeeping stunt. Tell your constituents that you are lowering their taxes..yet never tell them they are still sucking at the tit.

Secessionists remind my of the old KKK F'd-up logic of "just give us a piece if the US so we can live like we want".

Who wants to give up their land, homes, business, schools, fire houses, libraries...all infrastructures paid for by all the people...which belongs to all the people...so that morons can have a their own country?

WAKE UP MORONS... it ain't gonna happen.

    Sock Puppet Sinks Pundit
How Lee Siegel's antics made The New Republic into an even bigger joke
    Cathy Young | September 19, 2006

In recent years, The New Republic, one of the nation's leading magazines of political and cultural commentary, has been embarrassed by scandals involving two of journalism's original sins: fabrication of stories and plagiarism. But the latest scandal, involving the magazine's cultural critic Lee Siegel, has to do with a transgression peculiar to the Internet age: sock puppetry.

A sock puppet, in Internet parlance, is a false Internet identity created for deceptive purposes. Siegel, who had been writing a culture blog for The New Republic, had started using the pseudonym "sprezzatura" on the blog's forums to praise himself and savage his critics. In response to readers who had criticized Siegel's negative comments about TV talk show host Jon Stewart, "sprezzatura" wrote, "Siegel is brave, brilliant, and wittier than Stewart will ever be. Take that, you bunch of immature, abusive sheep."

After a reader expressed suspicion that "sprezzatura" was Siegel himself, he fired back, "I'm not Lee Siegel, you imbecile."

This incident illustrates both the extent to which the Internet has become a primary forum for public discourse, and the vast opportunities it creates for ethical and professional lapses. But new technology brings no exemption from basic rules of conduct.

When Siegel's deception was brought to the attention of New Republic editor Franklin Foer, the response was swift and draconian. Siegel's blog was terminated Sept. 1, he was suspended from writing for the magazine, and his past articles have been removed from the magazine's online archives.

While many journalists and bloggers reacted to Siegel's downfall with glee, a few came to his partial defense. Slate.com press columnist Jack Shafer questioned the gravity of Siegel's sin, noting that any website that allows pseudonymous comments "implicitly sanctions the practice of sniping at foes from a camouflaged position." If people can attack Siegel on his blog without using their real names, Shafer suggests, one could argue that "he should be allowed to do the same to them."

However, Shafer misses a key distinction: A pseudonymous identity is not the same as a false identity. In most online communities, creating multiple handles for deceptive purposes is a severe breach of "netiquette," resulting in banishment or disgrace. It's fine to post on a forum as, say, Princess Leia. But once you establish that identity, posting as BikerChick2006 to jeer Princess Leia's opponents is a no-no.

Lee Siegel's online identity was "Lee Siegel" since he was blogging under that name. For him to create a pseudonym and use it as he did would not be acceptable practice on any Internet forum, and shouldn't be acceptable practice in journalism. Siegel invented a patently fake identity for his sock puppet, pretending to be "an editor at a magazine in NYC" who had published Siegel. His attacks targeted not only anonymous posters but journalists writing under their own names, such as The American Prospect's Ezra Klein.

I take no joy in Siegel's humiliation, and I think The New Republic overreacted by removing his articles from its website. Still, his behavior has been a depressing combination of dishonesty, narcissism, and stupidity.

Siegel is not the only professional pundit to be caught in a sock puppet scandal. This year, Los Angeles Times business columnist Michael Hiltzik was stripped of his column and blog for using fake handles on his blog and those of his critics. Economist John R. Lott, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, passed himself off as his former graduate student "Mary Rosh" to defend his work and attack critics.

It is often argued that the Internet has a unique capacity for self-regulation, and that users will develop ways of ensuring that people behave. Yet, as the problem of spam shows, self-policing does not always work. Sock puppetry, too, has done serious damage to many online communities, and has often required the administrative powers of website owners to combat it. When people engage in such misbehavior in connection with their professional work, they should pay a professional price.

What they should not do is blame it on the Internet. Siegel told The New York Observer that he "took the blogosphere's bait" and that he initially saw nothing wrong with his actions because "this is really cowboy territory, with very few boundaries." But deception is deception, no matter what the territory. The fault, dear Lee Siegel, lies not in the Web, but in ourselves.

He is just a another stupid disgraced Liberal who spouts nonsense....the joke is on HIM. Maybe HE should secede and take other like-minded Libs with him.

Yeah an IPad is "Touchy" for copy paste and the IPad lacks a clipboard so ya gotta go One at a Time

My old samsung Galaxy tab 2 was "Way BETTER" for Copy Paste and it has a clipboard to save several links but my dumb@$$ took it in the garage dropped it and cracked the screen so I bought an IPad Mini as a replacement when Target was selling em for two hundred bucks

An Open Letter to Lee Siegel @ The Daily Beast
    Posted on 01/05/2013

    Lee Siegel – the thinking man's d*****bag.

A reader sent me a link to an article and I am not the kind to respond but in this case I’ll make an exception. Especially because the author is such a d*****bag.

Take a moment to read the article – it’s short. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/04/30/memo-to-the-south-go-ahead-secede-already.html

What Mr Siegel fails to realize is this – the North cannot survive without the South. The South has a much more well developed AG industry. Arkansas is the #1 rice and soybean producer; Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma are 3 of the 5 top beef producers; and the south is pretty much got a stanglehold on the cotton industry. Louisiana has a burgeoning fishing industry. The south pretty much has the poultry industry sewed up. Granted the north has Ag but does it have enough to feed those EBT dependent mouths? Lee, how long would it take before your dependents resort to cannibalism (and yes the Donners were Yankees)?

Another thing Joisey d*****bag fails to realize is that industry is flocking to the south at record rates. Hell the mass migration from the north is well documented and reported – even by the rag that calls itself Newsweek. The auto industry? Don't make me laugh. The south has the largest concentration of foreign automaker factories in the US which in turn are responsible for a majority of the auto sales in the US. And they didn’t need a bailout. Lee take a trip to Detroit but make sure you get your vaccinations first. That rusty metal that was once the center of industry can give you a nasty case of tetanus.

So we split and you get to pay jacked up rates for our exports to you. I like the sound of that.

I do agree – an amicable split would be a good thing. And as that young law student suggested I think these terms are fair:

“Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950’s for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a our separation agreement:

–Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

-We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.

–You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

–Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.

–We’ll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and the coal mines, and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.

–You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O’ Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.

–We’ll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.

–You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.

–We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and rednecks.

–We’ll keep Bill O’Reilly, and Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

–You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

–You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security.

    –We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values.

–You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

–We’ll keep the SUV’s, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.

–You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.

–We’ll keep “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “The National Anthem.”

–I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute “Imagine”, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”, “Kum Ba Ya” or “We Are the World”.

–We’ll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

–Since it often so offends you, we’ll keep our history, our name and our flag.

In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you might think about which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

    Sincerely,
    John J. Wall
    Law Student and an American”

So Lee, in summary you’re pretty much just a Jersey drama queen in most of our eyes. Seriously – What is a culture critic? Does that “job” even serve a real purpose other than amusing snot nosed spoiled northerners? I’m done with ya – and hell I didn’t even get to the part about Sprezzatura and the New Republic debacle.
