    Hi all,

I've always wondered what it'd be like to travel to the country that's frozen in time. My dad's friend goes for some tourist consulting, took pictures, it's like they are stuck in the 1950's. No advertising, old cars, highways/train tracks intersect...

I'd love to go. All politics aside, wouldn't it be cool to set foot there?

I would also love to travel to Cuba.. My dad had to inspect Esso's refinery there just before Castro took over and he loved it.

That's wonderful to hear. I would love to travel across the island. My father's friend said the police are very protective of toursits and they are always happy to escort you wherever. They welcome all tourism.

    That's wonderful! I think it's still 1958 there anyway.

Yes, everyone I talk to mentions the women. I'd love to see what that's all about....

It's very cool that Cuban customs and immigration inspectors do not stamp passports for citizens of those countries who forbid travel there. Living in Mexico, It's about an hour flight from where I live to Havana. My wife and I and another expat couple will be visiting Cuba this spring. I can't wait!

That's great! I'm jealous. It would be nice to get a working relationship with them and help those little guys get back on their feet.

I agree. I would imagine that there will be some very lucrative investment opportunities availing themselves very shortly!

It gets a little hypocritical for any "I'd never help prop up a Commie country" rightwinger....

who goes on business trips to China and Vietnam.....to say self-righteously they'd "never go to Cuba".

I know a couple people who have visited there, and everyone one of them said the expeience was very possitive. It is a very poor country, ( although not quite as poor as our media government would want you to believe ) but they said everyone was very warm and welcoming.

BTW, as soon as the Koch Brothers figure out a way to make money in Cuba?

The Right will "magically" come out in favor of lifting the embargo. :)

Then stick by your principles and get rid of all of your communist made consumer goods. If you do, your house will be barren.

But, you probably like your cheap widgets made by MNCs exploiting the poor in communist china. Even as it enriches a communist nation who hates your guts.

The sound of your widgets running, has covered up the hypocrisy. If you turn those off, the sound would be ear splitting.

BTW, I don't own any communist made goods. I have to buy old used stuff, made in American, off of ebay. For I will not enrich the communists, who are using our greed against us. Cuba is a choirboy up alongside of your producer of consumer goods. Cuba hasn't taken one American job, sending the American to have to get food stamps.

None of your answers fit my opinion. I will visit when the Castro dictatorship is over.

I'd never go to China or Vietnam.

My cousin who is German went there. They stole his id/credit cards and money when he was there. OTher than that, he liked it.

Excellent point. Lots of markets would benefit from the embargo lift

    - - - Updated - - -

Can you elaborate on why you won't visit until the Castro dictatorship is gone? Is it because you disagree with their politics, or would you feel unsafe visiting there?

Apparently, you are VERY well protected as a tourist. The police are always available for tourists because it's the nation's only real source of income (visitors). My dad's friend said police were happy to escort him wherever, just to feel safe.

They should eventually turn gitmo into an all-inclusive vacation resort. I hear it's a very comfortable facility for it's guests.

By the way, I hear you can already go if you really want to. Canada's airlines will take you, and the customs folks will happily stamp a slip of paper instead of your actual passport, I hear.

Political views. It is because of politics. Not worried about safety, but I don't want to do anything that keeps the Castro dictatorship in power any longer.

I would wager that congress (dems and repubs both) will start scheduling trips to see the place and we will be paying for those tickets as well as funding studies up the waazoo. So it won't be only the Koch bros looking to cash in.
