That's what they used to ask in the Army to make sure you're not crazy right? I can make that kind of joke here right? Not too politically incorrect I hope? Anyway... I'm 29, American Chinese, currently living in HK. I have a Masters Degree in Finance but I have no formal political science training as I was always a natural science major in school, could never hang with the cool social science kids I'm economically "conservative" almost a socialist. On social issues like gay marriage and abortion I'm most agnostic, just don't care, my child bearing and man loving days are behind me On the touchy politically correct issues like race, ethnicity and the like, I'm probably the type that SJW would love to see burn in Hell, not that most SJW believe in Hell (I don't either though...). But don't worry guys, I know where that magical line in the sand is, the latest month's edition of "Things you can't say in America even if they're true cause someone, somewhere, somehow is going to find it offensive and cry then post on tumblr" is well known to me. So, I'm I good to go?
dHello an welcome to the PF. The crazy test you refer to is an interesting one. Lol Happy Holidays and enjoy the site
Danke Johnny! Yeah, it was a real thing back in the day apparently. Though I imagine it wouldn't fly today since "no" has become an entire valid reply for better or worse haha
The purpose was more to determine if the recruit was homosexual or not, rather than if you were crazy. In terms of the U.S. military, the timeline is as follows... 1981 - the first formal regulation is established, DoD directive 1332.14, that codifies the ban on homosexuals in the service. 1993 - the directive is amended (Don't Ask Don't Tell) to infer the military accepts homosexuals under the condition they are not openly serving as such. Around 13,000 have been dishonorably discharged under DADT, Apparently they missed the memo about not telling and/or they were "outed" another way. 2011 - DADT is repealed, the military no longer bans homosexuals, including those who serve openly
Welcome Medical Officer. No PoliSci degree needed here and you can be as cool as your 'bad self' will allow.
I have a polsci degree and trust me, it's overrated. The subject is fascinating, but you'd be better off compiling a list of the top 50 classic works of political science, and reading one per week for a year. Maybe follow the readings at a local college, their libraries are usually open to the public. Welcome to the site. I've always wanted to go to Hong Kong. Great for street photography.
I agree, a social sciences degree, in general, is not worth the tuition at a private university. I was a voracious reader when I was younger, but not so much anymore. Though recently I've been getting a lot of good "reading" out of my Audible account. Finished both of Francis Fukuyama's Origin's of Political Order series. Excellent, fantastic reads. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in comparative cultural approaches to sociopolitical analysis. Hong Kong is indeed a city of unintentional, unplanned total WTF scenery.
Why do you connect being 29 and liking girls? Do you imagine that at 35 you will like women? Humor a apart ... as an Italian man, I can tell you that you have understood the core of existence!
The only thing I ever recall being asked was whether I would find being drafted into the military "appalling." I said this must be Catch 22 and they proved me right by adjudging me sane. You don't need a degree in anything here, though a large proportion of us believe most of the board should be certified in one way or another.
