why don't you complain about Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones stealing black-written blues songs?

Did this story really require two threads? Go watch the movie and get over it.

If the story was about an orphan kid who gets helped by a rich adult.....what's the problem?

Cons are losing their (*)(*)(*)(*) over a movie.....hilarious.

This Annie play can be performed in an Asian setting but ideally, the part should be played by a girl of Irish descent with her signature red hair. The author of the original comic strip met a little Irish orphan girl in the midst of the Great Depression, upon whom the comic character was based.

I can understand it being 'customized' for foreign markets, but in America, she's always been a red-headed, white girl.

Because there are no photographs of Moses. We don't know how he looked, so it's open to interpretation. Hollywood has always cast good-looking whites to play characters whom no one knows how they really looked anyway.

So why the problem with Britain casting the best British actor to play a fictional British spy?

I wasn't aware there was a problem with it...unless he's black, because Bond was written as a white character and has been known as that for decades.

Another problem I see with blacks playing traditionally white characters is that it smacks of them wanting to somehow be white too, if only subconsciously.

How much closer can you get to being white than playing a white character?

As I have said before, I'm Mexican American. I have no desire to see a Hispanic play a white character. In fact, many Hispanics would probably view it as pandering and take offense.

Lol. The one good thing Obama did was ensure another Democrat never wins the WH again for at least several decades.

Btw, at least they tried to stay true to the character and wore red wigs.

Just like all those whites did with the black face in the past, eh?

LoL at you thinking "Mexican-American" means one can't be racist or something.

Isn't wearing 'black face' considered racist and offensive?

    - - - Updated - - -

Yes, it is. If liberal blacks think America is racist, they should spend some time there. And here Obama is opening the border to them. If black liberals were smart, they'd really be PO'd that Obama has given illegal aliens priority over them.

I just want an actor that can do a decent job in the role. If I can enjoy the show, and a black Annie is part of the reason I do enjoy it, well I am pretty satisfied that I got my moneys worth. If you can't enjoy a black Annie, then save your money and buy some nice linen sheets.

The most signature part of Little Orphan Annie was that she had no eyes. I never really even noticed she had red hair, but the eyes were just weird. Should we only accept actresses that have no irises?

Since he's trying to dupe his own thread on this I think the OP will probably try to repeat his own argument about Shaft being done as white and I'd like to answer that. Shaft could be done as white but it would not be very interesting. Shaft was no more than the white detective of the day as a black, if Shaft was white, he'd be Bullitt or Dirty Harry.

As I've said before to someone else, I'm a 'she'. Notice the 'a' at the end of my username?

I think you're right about Shaft. That character was written and created to be black and using a white actor to play him wouldn't be the same. That's why black versions of white characters don't fair well for the same reason...it's not the same.

Okay, well I guess now that our countries are becoming more multi-ethnic we should cast Moses as an semetic-looking man.
That being said, I do not think anyone really knows for sure exactly what the ancient Jews looked like, probably not the same as the peoples in the Middle East today.
