Rumour - Monty Python to re-form and Abbott to join the troupe.

    What a bloody idiot.

I think this clown thought that by bringing back Knighthoods it would make him look statesmen like and win him a few elections. But ain't it funny how a POME bestows these honours spared for Aussies to a Scotsman and a Greek. I guess we convicts haven't got any body worthy enough to be held in such high esteem. This guy is a goose and not worthy to hold the highest office in the country! I genuinely fear for our country if this lunatic is allowed to lead us for much longer.

No, Abbott is the reincarnation of the Monty Python gang. You should get a knighthood for services to the country beyond what an ordinary mortal does. Phillip has not done that. Not even close.

OMG Australian's are getting daft. It's no suprise the people who didnt want knighthoods would go nuts over this. The media is having kittens LOL, but for the wrong one..... I don't think Angus Houston deserved one. These things are not military order's. The one to Prince Phillip is just a courtesy tip of the hat to the Queen to kick it off... but I guess Australian's are too caught up in their identity drama to understand such foreign concepts.

We all know where tone's nose is, so did this really surprise anyone? LOL

Just one more step back to the cave of insecurity.

I know PP publicly laughed his head off, when he heard Australians rejected the referendum on becoming a republic. He reportedly said: he couldn't believe Australians wanted to keep the Royals when they had the opportunity to get rid of them. I suppose he did that for us - laugh at Australian stupidity. :roflol:

Once again your total ignorance of the subject you are trying to debate is as outstanding as your eagerness to defend Tony no matter what he says or does.

The definition of a knighthood is that of anhttp://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight honourary title, bestowed upon a person by a monarch or politition for destinguishedsseservice to the crown or country ESPECIALLY in a military capacity.

Well DV, you know that's not right. How many knighthoods have been bestowed in modern times for destinguished military service? Bugger all!

It says especially for military service in the definition. I didn't write the definition.

PP is on roughly 600k a year, so with so little to live on he deserves to be a knight. .....

har har my friend, the laugh is on youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

    http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/knight

here though is the best. I use these paragraphs to demonstrate.

    http://www.heraldica.org/topics/orders/knights.htm

This states it all. The Order of Knighthood historically was for soldiers, military men, gallant men riding steeds defending monarch and country.
Now recently, we don't have men in armour riding steeds so it has become an award of merit.

BUT, to say that a soldier shouldn't get the award because it is not a military order, is nothing but a blatant lie, or demonstrates the ignorance of of the writer, or that they are so far up Abbott's R's that they will say anything to gain brownie points.

The Australian General Monash was knighted on the battlefield in WW1 by the King himself.

Angry fella aint you? Historically they were military orders, but these days they are not. Quite a simple observation for anyone who wasn't plugging their own BS agenda's against posters here. Do you go red in the face when you type these things DV? Its how they read....
