The state of Missouri garnered some publicity a while ago when the legislature passed a bill to legalize the purchase of machine guns despite the federal law in effect which effectively bans them. Others want to follow the Missouri lead on a state by state level and even bring them back on a national level

Why should any American support such a thing? Make your case to the American people giving us some good reasons why they should support a law which makes the sale, purchase, carrying and use of a machine gun legal
What would be the benefit for Americans to support making machine guns legal?

What the state of Missouri wants to do is pretty insignificant given that there is a federal ban on the sale of machine guns manufactured after 1986 unless for military or police purposes. The ironically named Firearm Owners Protection Act essentially made it impossible for anybody without a significant amount of money to own a fully automatic rifle legally. Even more ironic, is the fact that the law was meant to guarantee the save passage of individuals traveling across various states with firearms. There are quite a few states that have arrested and sent individuals to prison in spite of this law . There is only a finite amount of machine guns available for civilian use currently in circulation in the United States. I don't see the value in arguing over something that simply isn't going to be allowed for the general population. The government has unfortunately sealed that door shut and I don't see it ever opening again. The Firearm Owners Protection Act is a perfect reason why the sunset clause on the Assault Weapons Ban may have been the only thing that saved the second amendment from being completely gutted.

I don't recall which State(s) this applies to, but there are places in this country where a person who is otherwise able to pass a background check is perfectly within his rights to build his own machine gun. It can't be sold, and it can't leave the State.

Machine guns aren't illegal to own. As long as you pass a background check and pay the $200. tax and the machine gun was manufactured before 1982 a law abiding citizen can own a machine gun. But there are some radical leftist states that think they are above the Constitution like California where you might run in to some problems.

Public Law 99-308, the Firearms Owners' Protection Act:

Now if you're looking to purchasing a machine gun, they are all over the place to purchase, you just have to know where to go.

They are already legal on the national level, albeit greatly restricted. The machine gun supply for civilian use is pretty much restricted to the guns that were in the legal full auto market in 1986. Less than 5 crimes have been done since 1924 with legal machine guns. One of those crimes was done by a policeman who used a duty machine gun to commit armed robbery. Legal machine guns don't cause any problems, so they should remain legal.

Please do basic research before you post drivel.
