“Yes, there have been a couple of stumbles,” John Boehner acknowledged Tuesday.

The House speaker had spoken with dry understatement.

What has happened since Republicans took full control of Congress three weeks ago has been less a stumble than a pratfall involving the legislative equivalent of a banana peel, flailing arms, an upended bookcase, torn drapes and a slide across a laden banquet table into a wedding cake.

What a bunch of clowns. Create jobs or grow the economy, they couldn't care less. They are the ones that are blaming each other, they are running their own show and still nothing got done.

    They're in a paradox....

they desperately need to prove they can "govern".....but they are trying to keep their Base pacified.

So how do you govern...if you have to keep trying to prove how much you hate Government???

I'm caught in the middle. I'm not for these clearly partisan party tricks, so I kind of happy that the GOP Base red meat has spoiled. On the other hand, I do want a functioning government and we seem farther from that than ever. If the Republicans had been able to pass an agenda and the President had vetoed it, we would at least be having a meaningful conversation about the issues. Now we just have rumors of back door deals and squabbling with nothing being done and no real forum to even start the conversation.

This is hilarious, not even in office three weeks and the liberals are whining that the republicans have not fixed every problem in the country.

Who's whining? We're enjoying the obvious discomfort that the mantle of control is placing on the GOP's shoulders.

How bad has the leftist brainwashing become when American get upset when the three branches can't get together to make more laws ? To me it's a good thing. It seems every law Obama signs either taxes the middle class or some free be to companies like Monsanto or GE or Wall Street or global banks or Solyndra etc.

No Surprise. You know, beginning in 1981 when the repubs came back into power after basically being out of power since FDR, this nation has went completely down the tubes, at least for the common man, the average American. Yet average americans keep voting these jackwagons back in. I reckon the people who had good sense and kept the repubs out of power must have just died off? They knew better, afterall, who got us the great depression? Who got us the great recession and the crash? Who deregulated the banks which allowed the crash? Jesus Christ!!!!! And now we have them in control of congress?

Hmmm it was the Republicans who pulled us out of the Carter years, who balanced the budget and and pulled us out of the 2000/2001 recession, dot.com bust and 9/11 and into 52 months of full employment and a deficit back down to a measly $161B. How have the Democrats done since 2007? I think the question is why did the average American vote Obama and the Democrats into office to begin with and then reelected Obama and the Senate dems again. Perhaps they have learned better now and put the Republicans back in to fix things again.

midterms often benefit the ones out of office, why? because they are more motivated to vote

2016 will be Dems win again... then the midterms republicans again and on and on

    but your right, not always...

Bush got a huge bump in popularity during the 9\11 ordeal, both sides tend to come together when attacked by a common enemy

Elections to the United States House of Representatives for the 109th Congress were held on November 2, 2004.

Yes I remember those and called them folly at the time, but I was referring the the Carter years.

How many has he vetoed? i know he has done quite a few because he keeps holding up the senate and while i admirwe him issuing executive orders, they are just completely wrong. Obama has done 86% of his time in office hurting americans. He also helps people who are illegal. so "get real".

I think the Dems will gain seats, but not enough to take back the Senate or the House.

I do think the Dems have a great shot at the White House.

It was a between terms. 2002 was a mid-term. 2016 will be a wide open one.

He hasn't had to veto stuff because Harry Reid has been blocking everything that Obama doesn't support. Now, Reid can't do that.

    Yet 2002 was.

    And you said

I would say that in 2004, the between terms, the Democrats were highly motivated to vote, yet the Republicans held on to the Congress.
