last October the US and Israel became the only two nations to support the embargo on Cuba http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com...s-the-u-s-and-israel-against-the-world-again/ then in December when Obama announced that he hopes to end the 50+ year embargo on Cuba, Israel was reluctant to publicly support the administration's proposal to finally end the embargo http://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-balks-at-us-request-to-praise-new-cuba-policy/ http://rt.com/usa/217595-israel-us-cuba-embargo/ and now the one and only world leader who supports the embargo on Cuba says we should end our current negotiations with Iran and instead extend our embargo on them in hopes that they will yield and come to the table with a better deal than what we currently have to offer basically he thinks we should cut our diplomacy with Iran, and use our embargo as an alternative so Iran won't attain nuclear power how did that strategy work out with North Korea again?
The embargo on Cuba worked -- have you seen Cuba lately? If the embargo didn't matter the Cuban leaders would not be interested in having the U.S. remove it. Cuba would tell the U.S. to go pound sand.
all the embargo did is lower the living standard for Cuban citizens, the Castro dictatorship is still in charge last time I checked ..or do you actually believe that was our only goal from the beginning? we just wanted to make the citizen life in Cuba a living hell......
another demonstration of how nonsensical the people who support the Cuban embargo really are, right here in this thread
I don't think anyone is saying one can force regime change by embargoes. That's not the goal, weakening them is the goal. Look at cuba.. it worked. They drive cars from the 50's or something there. Embargoes do make countries weaker, and in that regard they are successful.
The only goal that has been achieved is that basic right to travel is indiscriminately violated by U.S. Government. Havana is a WAY BETTER then Santo Domingo where Dominican people are angry, hungry and live in worse poverty without any kind of embargo.
A very overrated right in my view. Some manage to fail despite not being embargoed. A talent latinos have apparently.
