Thanks Obama, as Commander in Chief your military, isn't that what you called our military "your military" has deteriorated under your command where it's no longer able to kick ass and win wars. That Lt. Gen. who back in 2010 who said you were a national security risk to America was right. You purged our officers corps of it's best flag officers and field grade officer. You had our troops attending diversity classes instead of training for war. For six years now you have been using the military for liberal social engineering. You even ordered U.S. Marines to violate their own regulations and had them carry girlie umbrellas. Then you ordered U.S. Marines to remove the bolts from their rifles because you don't trust them or respect them. Treason is what it is. Then Congress doesn't have the cajones to impeach and convict the community organizer, so they have to share some of the blame. But I digress.
Supposedly a military should be used purely for defense. However we all know the American military is not for defense, it is for power projection. For sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.
As we see what is unfolding today, an Iranian navy warship has just hijacked an American owned merchant ship. Though American owned it's flagged in the Marshal Islands. But I'm pretty sure the U.S. has an agreement with the Marshal Islands that we provide the military defense of the Marshal Islands and protect their sovereignty. The Marshal Islands are in the Micronesian Islands the former "Mandate Islands" that Japan got from the Germans after WW l. The Central Pacific where many battles took place during WW ll. After WW ll the Micronesian Islands became the U.S. Trust Territory of the Pacific. It was administrated by the U.S. Navy until the mid 1970's. What are the Iranians thinking ? Just testing Obama ? Well we remember what President Ford did when the Cambodians hijacked the U.S. merchant ship, the S.S. Mayaguez.
Actually, it is Danish owned and Marshall Islands flagged. Maersk is a Danish company, and the largest container shipping company in the world. It flags it's ships in many places, but chooses US registry when it is going where it is potentially dangerous for US Naval protection. The Marshall Islands are independent, but have an agreement that gives them US military protection. The S of H is considered pretty safe most times, which is why it is probably MI flagged. But I can imagine that they will change things so only their US flagged ships go through there for a while.
I see you're keeping updated on the story. It's breaking news and the first it was just said it was an American owned ship. A couple of hours later it was being reported as an American owned ship flagged in the Marshal Islands. Well anyways you have those who ask why do we need a navy ? The main mission of the U.S.Navy is keeping the sea lanes open during peace time and war time for maritime trade. The United States is still a maritime nation, our merchant fleet isn't as large as it use to be. But America is dependent on maritime trade and that means you have to have a blue water navy that can operate 10,000 miles from home to keep the sea lanes open.
