http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/0...n-nuclear-forces-on-alert-over-crimea-crisis/ Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he was ready to put his country's nuclear forces on alert to secure the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine last year. Shows us that the leader of Russia might not be completely sane, if he was actually willing to have a nuclear war over Crimea.
No sane person thinks that Putin is sane. The only people who believe he is are his brainwashed citizens. We can't call them sane. However, it's absolutely not their fault that they believe his rhetoric. They have been brainwashed for decades.
As far as I remember, the only nation in the world that used nuclear weapons is the United States. Twice. Two bombs - two cities. There were also some hesitations over Vietnam at the end of 60s: Nixon White House Considered Nuclear Options Against North Vietnam, Declassified Documents Reveal
Really? And who would have he bombed? Ukraine? So the radiation fall out would have swept across Russia too?
Obama would rather look weak and drone strike his own people. Not sure how he would have hit? Besides the U.S. He wouldn't hit Ukraine
Didn't obama drone an innocent American child? Didn't obama just kill an American with a drone. Didn't Obama arm and train Al Qaeda in Syria? Didn't Obama arm Al Qaeda in Libya?
He told about the West. It was the interview for Russian TV. Correspondent asks: "In your talks with western leaders was it clear they wouldn't meddle by zny military way?" Putin: "Of course, it wasn't. It couldn't be clear immediately, that is why, at the very first stage, I had to instruct our armed forces correspondingly. Not merely to orient them but to issue direct instructions about possible actions of our armed forces in any case."
I think this is a story that's safe to put out after the fact. I doubt nuclear weapons ever entered into Putin's strategy at the time he made his move on the Crimea. I mean, who would he nuke? But floating that story after annexation is already a fait accompli is a demonstration of how tough he is. I think it's just public relations for the Russians, and if gullible Westerners buy into it, so much the better.
Yes, I agree. I put this in the category "communication strategy of the strong leader at work", like when he shows his naked chest to photographers ...
