Most conservatives I know just don't want the established church's being forced to change their beliefs and practises - which I agree with. It's not a difficult issue, just extend the discrimination protection of churches to include not having to offer all types of legal marriages - it simply becomes like an open market with different providers of marriage providing different services - consumers (of marriage) simply choose what service provider meets their needs. Then it can be legalized with no real net downside different to what is already happening anyway. I think the LNP should do it, and do it right, else it will be left to the ALP who will stuff it up.
