I think Ronny Raygun was our first gay president. It is generally the conservatives that are gay, who preach one thing, but live a closeted life. Your kids are not safe around conservatives either. Oh I give Obama a lot of credit for this victory. If you don't think several of these justices were looking at the potential political ramifications of this call four and two years ago, I don't think you read the tea leaves correctly in comments made, even by Justice Ginsberg no less. These justices stalled and stalled time and again, kicking this can down the road and biding their time while watching appellate courts and prominent political figures prepare this country. I do not, for one instant, think this 5-4 decision would have come down, had public opinion still showed the overwhelming opposition that existed in 2004. When Obama's position 'evolved', it paved a road for many previously declared stalwarts of opposition in the democratic constituency such as the NAACP, and unions and several leading Christian and jewish clerics to embrace this idea. . Its not every day that the Justice dept refuses to defend the constitutionality of a federal statute leaving Congress to beg up some lawyers to defend DOMA. he also had a little something to do with the appointment of Sotomayor and Kagan, two sure yes votes.
