This article is about Michigan, but in NYC, more Black babies are aborted than born each year.

There are clearly some fundamental problems in America which lead to these figures. Lots of people finding themselves in such difficult situations in which they see abortion as the least worst option. Using them as a weapon to attack abortion does absolutely nothing to understand and address those problems, including whatever reasons a disproportionate number are apparently black.

Abortion isn't the problem, it's a symptom of problems, many and complex. People putting their socio-political positions above and beyond reality is just one of them.

Your headline is factually incorrect, not a single black American is killed in an abortion, unless of course you don't know that one has to be born to be a citizen or person, and even IF that should ever change elective abortion will still be a legal reality.

Abortion is a great way to control the population of "undesirables". Too poor? Abort. Too sick? Abort. Too uneducated? Abort. Child disabled? Abort.

Rather than deal with the real festering wound of social inequity, the government has just slapped a big abortion bandaid over it. Cheaper and easier. I mean who actually wants to do any real work anyway?

 

Stereotypes and labels don't help anyone. There are plenty of left wing, liberal, democratic, feminist, gay, atheist pro lifers out there. Unfortunately their voices are drowned out by the pro choice bigotted bullies who refuse to let them speak.
Many democratic parties won't even let you be a member unless you are pro choice. That's some twisted democracy.

So what are the pro life movement left with to promote their cause? Right wing conservative homophobes who also dont want to address the real issues behind why women choose abortion.

Basically both of the extremes are doing nothing to address the root of the problem, its the non extremists who want real change.

 

Because Abortions and access to Birth control has done more to bring disenfranchised people to higher standards of living?

 

Abortion and birth control do not raise the standard of living. They only prevent the standard of living from falling any lower due to terminating the increased financial pressure of a child.

The only way abortion could increase standards of living is by opening up more jobs at abortion clinics and/or redirecting profits made from the clinic back into poor communities.

 

Not just the financial burden but the time burden as well, as well as increased opportunities for having employment. Instead of spending that time and energy raising a child it can be used for getting a better education or developing existing skills. This in turn makes the person more likely to be employed in the future.

 

Yes pregnancy and childbirth can take away work and education opportunities (an unfortunate product of patriarchal society) but having an abortion will not GIVE you anything but an empty uterus. An abortion won't employ you, write you a resume or finish your assignments. An abortion won't fix poverty or unemployment. Abortion is just a bandaid to much bigger social issues.

 

It just simply gives a pregnant woman the time needed to do those things. There's no question that there are bigger social issues at stake, but the fact remains that this works. It has been shown to improve society over all.
