You should provide a link. We in America love reading about the occasional bad cop. Makes us giddy and helps distract from bigger problems.
A bad cop is not the problem. The problem, which is a big problem, is a corrupt and rigged system which protects bad cops.
People have ended up in jail for much longer than that when they defended themselves against a bad police officer. There is a double standard when it comes to police, if you had not noticed. If someone uses force against an officer, the burden is on them to prove that force was justified.
In many parts of Mexico the police are corrupt and cannot always be trusted, so when people are transporting something valuable over long distances they will often hire police to escort them, to ensure they will not get pulled over by other police and robbed.
