Anti-immigration declaration of war in Italy.

In a declaration of war, residents in a chic suburb of Italy staged an anti-immigration protest when the government tried to settle 101 African immigrants into their suburb. Residents broke into the empty apartments meant for the immigrants and stole TV's and mattresses, and burned them in the streets. The residents said, "We are not going home until the immigrants leave--this is an invasion." Their main complaint seemed to be concern for the safety of their daughters. They complained about the Africanization of Italy which has taken in 80,000 immigrants so far. An influx of foreigners into Rome 1600 years ago is one of the reasons Gibbons states as a cause for The Fall of Rome.

I hope they keep it up and escalate the resistance from just one community.

 

There is certainly a wave of anti-immigration sentiment building in Europe and its probably going to get worse than better.

I imagine that tensions will continue to rise until that one event lights off the powder keg and then I am not sure what will happen but I doubt it will be pretty.
