If I remember correctly, Europe was filled with "no nukes" protestors in the 1980's. Now that Iran (the world's foremost terrorist state) is about to acquire nukes, where are the protestors?

I guess they couldn't trust the West with nukes, but Iran seems to be stable and responsible.

If you didn't know that Iran is working toward creating a nuclear weapon, you need to pay closer attention. Watch some TV news, read a newspaper, look at the internet. You can do it. I have faith in you.

Their position on Iran specifically would likely be that if other nations (especially Israel) didn't have nuclear weapons, Iran wouldn't feel the need to match them. The only (albeit flawed) argument against Iran having nuclear weapons but not anyone else relies on the position that Iranians are evil terrorists while we're all perfect shining angels, which isn't going to be shared by many opponents to nuclear weapons in general.

There's no practical alternative to the Iran deal if nobody else is willing to give up nuclear weapons too anyway so any westerners protesting Iran directly on this aren't going to cut much ice and the other governments involved would dismiss such protesters out of hand because they (publicly) don't accept the fundamental principle of multilateral disarmament.

    Iran has no nuclear weapons.

Having said which, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is all about our own country being free of nuclear weapons. We've never tried to pressure the Russians nor North Koreans nor Israelis nor even the French - because what leverage do British civilians have over those governments (and, of course, vice versa)?

It's good news that the Iranians can get on with using nuclear power like the rest of us, though. We can each lobby our own legislatures about foreign policy, but we're all in the same planet's atmosphere and carbon emissions from power stations in other countries are "our business" in a way that defence policy isn't.

Jesus Christ, that OP is wrong on so many levels. Do you actually know anything about the situation in continental Europe that you're referring to?
Obviously not. Otherwise you wouldn't utterly simplistically compare it to today's Iran.
Who says it's the world's foremost terroristic state? Been watching too much fox news?
There's definitely a lot to be criticised about Iran and especially its theocratic government, but when was the last time Iran attack or invaded another country?
The US is pretty good at that.

That would be 1856, when Qajar Persia attempted to recover the (Persian-speaking) region of Herat from the Emir of Afghanistan, and got knocked down by the British for their presumption.

I mean - invading Afghanistan (albeit to recover territory)? Who does that?

    Ta.
That question, however, was more meant to be a rhetorical one.

Of course typical Leftists have little problem with Iran as it is a totalitarian state as all Neo-Coms also wish to be in one.

Iran is a (*)(*)(*)(*)e State, and of course only the (*)(*)(*)(*)e brand of Islamic has any sort of religious freedom. Knowing that ISIS is a Sunni-based terror group, the (*)(*)(*)(*)e terrorists running Iran do all they can to support brother Shia terrorists---like the Taliban:

The report quotes a Taliban fighter as saying that the militants receive weapons from smugglers paid by Iran’s government who traffic the contraband through the remote border region where Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan meet.

The Iranian government reportedly has stepped up shipments of weapons and money to the Taliban in Afghanistan in recent months.

According to The Wall Street Journal, which cited Afghan and Western officials in its report, Iran’s motivations for stepping up support for the militants are to prevent ISIS from gaining a foothold in Afghanistan and providing a check on U.S. influence ahead of the planned withdrawal of most American troops by the end of 2016.

The report quotes a Taliban fighter as saying that the militants receive weapons from smugglers paid by Iran’s government who traffic the contraband through the remote border region where Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan meet. Among the weapons Taliban units allegedly receive are mortars, machine guns, rifles, and rocket-propelled grenades.

Iran has repeatedly denied providing financial or military aid to the Taliban. No Iranian officials immediately commented on the Journal’s report.

Republican critics of ongoing negotiations between Western powers and Tehran over the future of Iran’s nuclear program say that Iran’s support for the Taliban, Hezbollah, and other militant groups in the Middle East would only increase thanks to the possibility of relief from sanctions have throttled the country’s economy.

According to the paper, a report compiled by the Pentagon in October of last year says that Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps have been delivering weapons to the Taliban since at least 2007. The relationship between Tehran and the Taliban solidified in the summer of 2013 when a Taliban delegation was invited to participate in a conference on Islam.

For the past two years, Afghan officials and the Taliban fighter tell the Journal, Iran has been operating training camps for Taliban inside its territory. At least four of the camps are currently operating.

In at least one case, Iran is even supplying fighters for the Taliban by turning to Afghan immigrants who fled to Iran to escape Afghanistan’s ongoing turmoil. One of them, the Taliban fighter quoted in the report, says he was approached by an Iranian intelligence officer after being detained for working as an illegal laborer.

So, according to this, it seems Iran is kind of doing what the US has be doing for decades.

Perhaps the Iranian government gifts arms to its sworn enemies. It's a funny old world we live in, especially on the internet.

So the answer to the original question - why aren't European advocates of unilateral disarmament protesting in the streets against the dropping of economic sanctions against Iran - is that we don't want girls to be allowed to go to school.

It's obvious when you think about it.
