If you have seen the movie "Titanic," do you think the movie could have merited on its own instead of involving the fictitious Jack and Rose storyline?
Doubtful. Who else would it have been about, though? A blockbuster needs compelling characters, and some kind of big conflict. It can't just be a kind of fake documentary about the Titanic, with general re-enactments like some weird, boring turn of the 20th century reality show.
I would love to see the prespective of the musicians playing while chaos was breaking out, or the Arrogant captain of the invisible ship.
Well, a story was needed. The Jack and Rose storyline was good because it combined the upper class and the lower class (giving more drama to the lower class almost being imprisoned to drown on the lower decks), which gave the whole thing more drama, and made us think about everybody involved. Having the upper class gave us a chance to see the designer of the boat, as well as the captain. - - - Updated - - - They knew they were about to die, so they played on. They weren't oblivious, they had just resigned themselves to death, and wanted to make the most of it.
