Plz post your favorite great vocalists, and a song, (or more than one) by them. (Plz list Vocalist/Artist and song title.)

I'll begin w/ some Powerhouse singers:

    'The Weight' Aretha Franklin

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wta5GU3FNhA

'The IRS' Angie Fisher (She's awesome!)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbFZJmcLUT0

'Wildflower' Skylark (David Foster up front.)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ8n_Esop5I

'Amazing' Aerosmith (Steven Tyler IS amazing...he's done too many great songs to list here. Second one is 'Home Tonight'.)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSmOvYzSeaQ

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KdwJIaUK54

'Shame On The Night' R. J. Dio (So much power out of a man who's 5 foot nothing...and he's also done many other great songs.)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vABtNXuNZt8

'Tomorrow' Ozzy (He's something else, a very long career, and he always puts together a great band. I saw Black Sabbath's Reunion tour w/ all original members in 1999....one of the best shows I've ever been to.)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMgzz8dht9k

'Don't speak' No Doubt (Gwen Stefani up front. 'The Climb' is the second song.)

Whether you like her scorn woman songs or not, I don't think you can dispute that Adele has the strongest female voice out there right now

She does have a strong voice, but I can certainly dispute her as being the strongest..see in the O.P., Aretha Franklin, and/or Angie Fisher. (P.S. It's not a contest.)

Sadly, Janis Joplin is no longer w/ us, but she was a powerhouse, no doubt.

Phyxius, thanks for the Brent Smith/Shinedown!

    (P.S. Great avatar!!!)

5thofnov. B.D is awesome!!! He surely ranks very high on the Powerhouse list, and he's multi-talented...he's also is a great fencer, and he pilots the Band's plane on tours.

A couple of my favourite vocalists (part 1):

Fish, former vocalist with Marillion - such an expressive voice and way of singing (as well as being one of the greatest lyricists of modern times).

    Fugazi - Marillion

    Vigil - Fish

Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span) - just such a beautifully pure voice.

    Gaudete - Steeleye Span

All Around My Hat - Steeleye Span

A couple of my favourite vocalists (part 2):

Corey Taylor - the perfect blend of scream/growl/roar stuff and melodic singing.

The Devil In I - Slipknot:

Anette Olzen - the Nightwish singer most people don't like, but she had incredible expression and versatility, and great power.

    Scaretale - Nightwish

Jonathan Davis - Unique, heartfelt, puts everything into it, and not afraid to go places other people wouldn't dream of!

Freak on a Leash - Korn

Benji Webbe - applies one style of singing to what should be a different style of music in a way that works incredibly and seems so natural, and one of the best live performers on the planet. Like Corey Taylor, knows exactly when to 'sing' and when to 'scream'.

    Rat Race - Skindred

Lemmy (RIP) - because of the kind of music he mostly played, sadly all too often overlooked as a singer with an amazingly soulful tone to his voice.

    Love Me Forever - Motorhead:

Thanks for the Fish, cenydd. He does have an expressive voice, and you can feel his emotion, and this also applies to Gaudete and the group.

The Devil In I - Slipknot: These guys rock, Corey has a great voice!!!

I'll get to the rest when I have more time.

Anette Olzen does have a great voice, unusual as well.

Why don't ppl like her in Nightwish???

It's so difficult to categorize music...I guess Nightwish is 'Heavy Metal meets Rock Opera". I've never even heard of them before this, thanks, cenydd.

Rat Race is an interesting blend of Reggae and Metal....kinda reminds me of Rage Against The Machine in some way.

(I like some Metal, but Korn isn't my favorite band...to each his own.)

    May Lemmy RIP

She was a bit of a contrast with their previous singer, Tarja Turunen, who was far more operatic - lots of people just didn't take to Anette Olzen, and were quite happy when she left. Tarja also has a great voice, of course, but totally different:

Tarja does have a great voice, but so does Anette...tough to choose who's best in Nightwish, or otherwise, for me anyway.

Nightwish does have an unusual sound, thanks!

Another is Cris Cornell....this is one from his time w/ Soundgarden. "Black Hole Sun."

For best vocalists (not always the best songs), I like Ann Wilson of Heart and Freddie Mercury of Queen. Mick can't sing worth a lick but I've always liked the Stones with him singing. And I hear they are back in the studio. And I can still listen to Floyd music ALL DAY LONG.

Two pages in and nobody's mentioned Tom Jones. Shameful!

Since someone's gone for Pav and his old nesty doormat, I have to say I prefer Wynne Evans singing it:

There may be something of a pattern developing here!

Here's a couple from Dusty Springfield...one of the sexyist voices ever recorded.

"You don't have to say you love me."

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9NY3P1QwWw

    "Son of a preacher man"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RInuFNw1Lk0

I'm not sure who fronts this one by the Temptations, but a great Motown song.....one of many by this group.

    "Ball of confusion"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9poCAuYT-s

Another great one by the Temptations....they all have good voices.

    "Can't get next to you"

What good is voice if the music is just average and no one buys it?

As far as rock vocalists go the top guys are:

    Elvis

    Robert Plant

    Steve Perry

    and maybe Freddie Mercury.

How many of your signers could do something like "Whole lotta love?"

Greataxe, they could do 'Whole Lotta Love' but not as well as RP.

Bob0627, they both have great voices, :worship: thanks!

Here's another version, from so-called 'Voice of an angel' Charlotte Church, in her younger days.

She did grow up, of course. About 10 years ago she had her own late night chat show for a while, and sung her own theme tune every week, in a different style and with different topical words (still a great singer voice, of course). This was the first one, and kind of the way she announced how the show, and the new grown up and slightly less 'angelic' Charlotte, was going to be (rude words warning!):
