Presumably the idea behind the deal was to allow Iran to have fuel for its nuclear reactors, while attempting to minimize Iran's capability to be able to make nuclear weapons (because if Iran operates their own enrichment facility then it would be easy to develop weapons-grade material). Remember, the Israelis have bombed an Iranian enrichment facility in the past and have expressed in clear terms that they are not going to let develop such a facility. It also appears that an Argentinian prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, might have been assassinated in an attempt to prevent him from coming forward with his investigative report revealing evidence that Iran was behind the 1994 bombing of an Israeli-associated organization building in Argentina. If such information had come to light it may likely have made it more difficult to get the deal accepted. If this is true, it is a very big news story, maybe bigger than the Iran-contra affair scandal.
