Science Sarah Palin Is Right: Bill Nye Is No Scientist He sure is used by the Democrats a lot of the time.
Nye has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. That's it. He is as much a scientist and Judge Judy is a judge.
Really? This is going to be a "thing"? You are going to spend time arguing that the Kardashian of Politics is right about ... something?
Well - let's take a look at the requirements for a ME Degree ... Oh, I see - Physics I and Physics II. Chem I. Modern Biology Lab. Experimental Physics and Bio engineering Lab. *A quick look at ME Degree basic requirements from Carnegie Mellon University. No - nothing related to Science in the above ... WTF, dudes. If you honestly think Palin is as much as a scientist as someone with a an ME degree, you are really messed up in the head.
He can say, provided he passed the test, that he is an engineer. But scientist, nope. He is as much a scientist as is Al Gore. Who brought us climate management by humans. They hate that Sarah Palin called out Bill Nye, but that is simply too bad. - - - Updated - - - Palin is not preaching that humans manage climate. Bill Nye is.
Nye isn't claiming humans "manage" climate, he is saying that human actions have an affect on climate - and so are 90% of climate SCIENTISTS. So why did you just feel the need to lie about what he said. Is Palin your girlfriend? Do you have a crush?
It's simple enough to understand, he's not a scientist. He's a media personality. - - - Updated - - - Taking a few science courses does not make a person a scientist any more than taking a few math courses makes a person a mathematician.
It's a degree in a S.T.E.M field, therefore, he's much more a Scientist than Palin. What's her degree in again?
The United Nations IPCC also publishes a research review in the form of a voluminous, occasionally-updated report on the subject of climate change, which the United Nations asserts is “authored” by approximately 600 scientists. These “authors” are not, however – as is ordinarily the custom in science – permitted power of approval the published review of which they are putative authors. They are permitted to comment on the draft text, but the final text neither conforms to nor includes many of their comments. The final text conforms instead to the United Nations objective of building support for world taxation and rationing of industrially-useful energy. http://www.petitionproject.org/review_article.php The project has fulfilled the expectations of its organizers. In PhD scientist signers alone, the project already includes 15-times more scientists than are seriously involved in the United Nations IPCC process. The very large number of petition signers demonstrates that, if there is a consensus among American scientists, it is in opposition to the human-caused global warming hypothesis rather than in favor of it. Moreover, the current totals of 31,487 signers, including 9,029 PhDs, are limited only by Petition Project resources. With more funds for printing and postage, these numbers would be much higher. http://www.petitionproject.org/frequ..._questions.php So you see, there is no true consensus, and if Al Gore really believes that the seas are rising, why did he just buy a 9 million dollar beach front mansion in Montecito CA if it will be underwater in a few years?
Old news. It was purchased at least six years ago; plus,it isn't on "the beach",it's on a hilltop with a view of the ocean.
Judge Judy is a retired judge. Bill Nye is an actor with a degree in engineering. That, and Beakman's world was better
Mechanical engineering is a science field. The ignorance on these previous posts is amazing. How many of those guys actually graduated from elementary school or can read. Nye has a degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell and worked at Boeing for years and dveloped systems used today on the 747. ENGINEERS USE SCIENCE. Science is what their life is all about. Science is theoretical, engineering is practical Science in use. It's obvious you don't have a clue about science. You are a scientist if you study the earth and space science but have the necessary degrees in related fields to qualify you. Scientist usually specialize in fields like biology, physics, engineering etc. there is no degree in just " science ". Anyone with a degree in the related fields can be a scientist by engaging in the appropriate activities but you need the necessary background in related fields to do it.........LIKE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. a biologist can be a scientist like an Astro Physicist. If I had a degree in mathmatics and helped develope a math model to predict climate change, I would be a scientist with a specialty in math. It's apparent these guys have little education in science and probably still think the world is 6000 years old .
"The Petition Project" The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) describes itself as "a small research institute" that studies "biochemistry, diagnostic medicine, nutrition, preventive medicine and the molecular biology of aging." It is headed by Arthur B. Robinson, an eccentric scientist who has a long history of controversial entanglements with figures on the fringe of accepted research. In 1998 the OISM circulated the Oregon Petition, a deceptive "scientists' petition" skeptical of global warming, in collaboration with Frederick Seitz. The OISM Petition Project, aka Oregon Petition, has some major problems. Firstly, attached to the petition was an article supporting its claims. The article was designed to look just like an article from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a reputable peer-reviewed journal. However, the article was created by three skeptics and was not peer-reviewed at all. The NAS was subject to a lot of inquiries and controversy following the publication of this petition. It eventually had to publish a statement saying that the NAS had nothing to do with the article. Quote from National Academy of Sciences "The petition was so misleading that the National Academy issued a news release stating that: The petition project was a deliberate attempt to mislead scientists and to rally them in an attempt to undermine support for the Kyoto Protocol. The petition was not based on a review of the science of global climate change, nor were its signers experts in the field of climate science." Secondly, the petition could be signed by scientists from any discipline, even if they had no experience studying climatology. Arthur Robinson clearly states that the purpose of the petition was to gather signatures from people who agree with him. He achieved this purpose; he got signatures. As Whittenberger states, He has a right to conduct any kind of petition drive he wishes, but he is not ethically entitled to misrepresent his petition as a fair reflection of relevant scientific opinion. http://climatesight.org/2009/06/17/ignore-the-petition-project/
Engineers are not scientists and having a BS in ME is really not all that big of a deal either to then proclaim yourself as some sort of science expert.
Fact check: Sarah Palin as much a scientist as Bill Nye? Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin falsely said she is as much a scientist as Bill Nye, best known for his childrens show, Bill Nye the Science Guy. Nye has multiple credentials that make him more of a scientist than Palin, including a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Cornell, experience working with NASA and various patents. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...heck-sarah-palin-scientist-bill-nye/83206808/
Dr. Richard Lindzen who was a professor at MIT is far more a climate scientist than is Bill Nye. Forget Palin, it is professionals like Lindzen that I listen to. And read his papers which you and the rest of the left should give a shot.
It's interesting to note that out of what was likely a lengthy speech by Sarah Palin, the only take away is that she said Bill Nye isn't a scientist. Well he knows the subject well enough to be an engineer and a teacher of the subject to kids. That's not a problem. The problem is that Bill Nye is a leftist and that his politics clouds his judgment about climate change. Perhaps I should listen to the whole speech to see if there is anything of value beyond a mere politically motivated soundbite provided to us by our media overlords. While I'm doing that, here is some testimony given to a Senate committee during a hearing on energy policy. The speaker is Alex Epstein of the Center for Industrial Progress and he was obnoxiously lectured about not being a scientist when he revealed he's a philosopher. But Alex does know the subject that he is speaking about.
Really? So what, specifically, 'clouds his judgement' in terms of being a leftist in regards to climate change?
The fact that leftists have been predicting catastrophe for about 40 years and their predictions have been wildly incorrect is an indication that politics is clouding their judgment on the issue. It's only logical to think that Bill Nye is no different.
That doesn't answer what I asked you, and while some may have predicted catastrophe (itself undefined here), clearly not all have. LOL! No, not really. Your assumptions, short of any other relevant data, statements, etc... by Nye remain just that: unfounded assumptions and bare assertions.
Ok, so what is Bill Nye saying that's different from and more accurate than the likes of James Hansen, John Holdren, or Paul Erhlich? There is a saying: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result".
Huh? I never said he wasn't a scientist, just that he was an actor with a degree in engineering. In fact, my point was that he is a scientist, just like Judge Judy is a judge. However, Beakman's world was better.
Speaking of the Dr. Richard Lindzen, he was critical of Bill Nye too but no one wants to address what he says. Sarah Palin is much easier to criticize.
