That's what Thomas Hobbes said with his bogus "social contract," that everyone was obligated to follow the dictates of anyone wielding power, be it a king, a warlord, whomever.

Do you actually believe that or were you just kidding?

"Social Contracts," have existed since Og first decided it was more beneficial to join forces with Gron for mutual survival rather
than bash him over the head with his club.

And one evening when Og and Gron were roasting a haunch of wild pig over a fire Og said,"Gron, do you think that the rest of the people should have it this good.?"

    Gron said "No."

And Og said, "Then, let's start a government, and tell everyone that they are contractually obligated to obey us.."

I don't know how anyone can believe that and maintain any sort of self-integrity. Then again, I don't believe that most people ever give it much thought.

Obviously, you own yourself, and all of the responsibilities that come with self-ownership.

That was before people started electing their leaders.

There's no reason we can't have both individual liberty and promote "economic liberty" (i.e. counteracting poverty), it doesn't really cost all that much.

Well, I suppose that concept is not really compatible with immigration and the mass movement of people when there are so many impoverished people in other parts of the world. Looks like it comes down to sacrificing one form of liberty for another.

How does any person acquire a right to prevent another person from moving anywhere that they want to, except onto their own personal property? And if a person does not have a right to prevent someone from moving somewhere, how can they logically transfer a right they don't possess to a group calling itself a government?
