A short time ago, relatively speaking, Steve Jobs died. You could not look a a news source for at least three weeks, without seeing an article praising him for being a 'visionary' (that word makes me puke now) I'm like WTF? Ok, I get the picture, he founded Apple. I'm sorry he died but he just was not that great of a man. The author of the article I linked to, Nobody cares that you're sad about Prince, points out the utter insincerity of these long, drawn our, periods of mourning. As I tend to be sardonic, I may appear to be abrupt about this but I have a real life and my true loves and concerns are anchored to the people directly involved in my life.

    Anyways, this is my opinion.

I would be surprised if those who are sad about the death of Prince care about others lack of care for their sadness.

It is indicative of modern day idolatry.

Steve Jobs was a clown, he was too carried away with partying to even meet with IBM for a new Basic language. Bill and Paul had pretended to write a Basic interpreter for Altair, and when Altair agreed to license it, Allen and Gates had to rush Micro-Soft Basic out the door. Then, when IBM was looking for an operating system for its new 8086 PC, Gates suggested Digital Research. Didn't go well with DR, so IBM asked Gates and Allen to provide one. Bill made a deal with Seattle Computer Products for its Intel 8086-based operating system, called 86-DOS (an imitation of DR's CP/M) for the 8086, and kept the exclusive distribution rights. Bill and Paul were very good businessmen, grew their company into a giant, but they weren't the true innovators. Steve Jobs tried to play catch-up with macs and a gui that he stole from Sun Microsystems, but his company was, and still is, way overpriced and proprietary. They are best at suing others that stole their stolen ideas.

As for the raspberry beret man, he was a conspiracy recluse that thought chem-trails and the Illuminati are real. He had a symbol for a name, and lacked any gender.

So, I have respect for what they achieved, but little empathy for their idolaters. What made you initiate a thread about those that you find not worthy of other people's respect and mourning?

It's not about respect and mourning, it's about how the media plays this crap up. It is they who decide who gets the attention. Celebrity worship is big business. I don't live vicariously through actors, musicians, sports and political personages.

As long as it moves copies of People magazine, they will have it. Once it stops moving extra copies, they will go back to their wall-to-wall coverage of The Bachelor or whatever is selling product this week.

I have a real family too. And I have zero problem with non-fans of Prince not spending time on his death...not everyone's going to be a fan.

I'm certainly not a star worshipper either. Most celebrities get on my nerves and have too much money as compared to the value they provide to society...I get it.

However, for me and a lot of people...Prince was an incredible musician and he was literally the sound that defined many of my young teenage years. Also, since I grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood with a lot of rock music that I didn't care for, it was great to have icons that looked like me and defined the music I wanted to listen to. I've been listening to Prince music for most of my life...and so for me, his passing isn't nearly so much about just his death, as much as, a reminder about how short and tenuous life is.

If you don't like the news, turn it off. Believe me, it won't be the last time the networks put a story on over and over and over again, ad nauseum...its what they do.

Prince's estate to be temporarily managed by trust company
April 27, 2016 — A Minnesota judge appointed a corporate trust company on Wednesday to temporarily oversee Prince's multimillion-dollar estate, saying the emergency appointment was necessary because the superstar musician doesn't appear to have a will and immediate decisions must be made about his business interests.

People who need to mourn in this fashion (hero worshiping, wailing and gnashing of teeth) are losers. They need to elevate their heroes since their measly lives are so pathetic. Also, they look for sympathy from others for their suffering. Losers, plain and simple. Time to move on.

True enough. To that extent, if Kim Kardashian passed away, we'd never hear the end of it.

    Umm..The article is on point.
Prince was a musical genius.Make no mistake about that.
Did he die from Oxycontin or Roxycontin?
Perhaps the real issue should be the legality of those drugs.
I would shed 0 tears if I never heard of Kim Kardashian again.

Exactly. I'm not against public displayed of mourning but when people start eulogizing someone way past their station in life, it starts getting sickening. I was born two years before Purple Rain came out. By the time I started listening to music, he was already old school. But this really isn't about Prince per se, It's about how the media milks these tragic events.

All I can say is that the Macintosh has been in serious trouble since Steve left. The new Apple doesn't know what to do with it, or maybe just doesn't care enough. It's rather like the Sculley years all over again, but with no Jobs to come back and save it this time.

I hate it when famous people die because it makes the news so damned boring. It doesn't even matter if it's somebody I admire, I just don't want to hear about it much. Maybe a story or two but this obsession over it makes me wonder if the world is really this boring, or if the media is just too lazy to cover actual news.

It's like yeah I know they were talented. Now let's hear about issues that actually affect our lives or are interesting to think about.

    Death is certain.
The time of death is uncertain.

A Buddhist's life is practice for death, because death gives greater meaning to life.

If anything can be gained from the death of a celebrity or anyone for that matter, is to understand how precious and short life is and to try and live it as fully as possible.

The media has extremely economized the actual gathering news aspect of their business operations. Rather, they put all their money into highly paid political commentator actors.

As a result, they all run the same story 24/7 and often for days. It is a huge world with 7,000,000. But if an airliner crashes anywhere, exactly nothing is happening in the USA or world and the only news will be 2 or 3 days about that airliner.

It is common for some event to happen where I decide not to bother watching cable news - particularly if it is some natural disaster somewhere in the world or some other tragedy. It is amazing that people will spend hours trying to learn every minor detail of a sunami on the other side of earth.
