Democracy is just a positive word that is sloppily thrown around to lend a veneer of goodness to anything America does - sort of like freedom. We do the same thing with using the word terrorist to refer to any group we dislike despite it having a more specific definition. Democracy isn't a particularly good thing to begin with. While it supports the interests of the many, often at the expense of the few, it makes decisions based upon average intelligence rather than the most informed opinions possible. While it is balanced in a sense in America by plutocracy, these decisions are made by people whose skills are in manipulating others for their own short-term benefit, not achieving good policy outcomes overall. Constitutional meritocratic technocracy is probably the best possible system.
