I'm not an Obama fan....but this was pretty good:
"When Obama took office from the last Republican president, the economy was tanking at a -9% real rate, losing 700,000+ jobs a month, unemployment was 7.8% skyrocketing upward, and the stock markets and housing markets were crashing in the worst recession in 80 years. The deficit was running at $1.2 trillion, soon projected to hit $1.9 trillion, the housing market was destroyed, and the economy was headed straight for a depression."

But now the the private sector has added more jobs every month for a record 72 months in a row, stock markets are up about 175% from their recession lows to record highs, corporate profits have hit all time highs, we've gained back all the jobs lost in the recession and millions more, the housing market is recovered, the deficit has been cut by more two thirds, the unemployment rate has fallen from 10% to 4.7%, and over 14 million additional private sector jobs have been added since Jan 2010.

Only those invested in failure for political purposes could say that Obama has inflicted damage.

Whether or not I agree with the poster's particular thrust, I do think this was a well-crafted and researched thread starter, and an interesting read to boot.

Default most women who were raped do NOT want to abort the baby

“Shouldn’t abortion be legal in cases where the woman has been raped?”
This is an argument that pro-life supporters keep encountering over and over again.

Even though, according to Planned Parenthood’s own statistics, less than 1% of all abortions are performed on women who were raped or were victims of incest, pro-choice activists insist that abortion must be legal for these women, even if it leads to thousands of women a year having abortions for other reasons.

In fact, Roe v. Wade was based on the rape argument—Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff who went under the pseudonym Jane Roe, claimed she had been gang-raped and needed an abortion. Years later, she admitted that the rape story was false and was made up in order to garner sympathy for the pro-choice cause.

Pro-choicers have been very successful in convincing the general public that rape victims need abortions. Implied is the belief that women who are pregnant by rape cannot possibly want their children, that they could never be happy giving birth, and that it is completely unnatural for a woman to want to have a rapist’s baby.

When pro-choice activists argue that abortion must be legal in cases of rape, there is always one thing missing from their rhetoric—the voices of women who were raped and kept their babies. These are the people who are intimately acquainted with the emotional trauma of rape and the horror of a pregnancy resulting from rape. And what they’re saying may surprise you.

This is what Kathleen DeZeeuw, the mother of a child conceived in rape, had to say:

I, having lived through rape, and also having raised a child ‘conceived in rape’, feel personally assaulted and insulted every time I hear that abortion should be legal because of rape and incest. I feel that we’re being used to further the abortion issue, even though we’ve not been asked to tell our side of the story.

DeZeeuw believes that many times, rape victims are pressured into having abortions by those around them. People are often very uncomfortable around a rape victim. They don’t know how to deal with her trauma, they don’t know how to comfort her, and many times they wish the problem would just go away, that she would “get over” it. These feelings are all the more exacerbated when the rape victim is pregnant. When they say a rape victim is constantly reminded of the assault by her pregnancy, what they are actually saying is that they themselves are constantly reminded of the assault by seeing her pregnant. While it is true that being pregnant after rape is very traumatic, rape victims who have kept their children often say that they wish the people around them had been more supportive.

Contrary to what many people in society think, most women who become pregnant as a result of being rape do not want to abort. About 70% of the women chose to keep their babies.

According to the two doctors who conducted one study, Sandra Kathleen Mahkorn, M.D. and William V. Dolan, M.D.:

[This study indicates] that pregnancy need not impede the victim’s resolution of the trauma; rather, with loving support, nonjudgemental attitudes, and empathic communication, healthy emotional and psychological responses are possible despite the added burden or pregnancy.

Another study, conducted in 2000, revealed that 78% of the 30% of women who had abortions after their rapes felt that they’d made the wrong decision and said that “abortion is not the answer for women who were raped.” In contrast, not a single one of the 70% who had their children regretted it. Some of these women had given up their babies for adoption, and some of them had kept their babies—but the unifying factor among all of them was that none of them regretted giving birth.

One woman who had an abortion after her rape spoke about what she went through:

“I was raped a month before I turned 18. And because of that rape I was so fearful and so shameful that I chose abortion, out of fear. My rape was nothing compared to what I did to my child. What my rapist did to me does not compare to what I chose to do to my baby. My rapist didn’t kill me, I’m standing here alive right now. I have three beautiful children at home and a husband who loves me. But I chose to kill my child out of the shame, out of guilt, out of fear because of what a man did to me. Rape is no excuse for abortion. I want to say that. […] I’m tired, as a person who was raped and a person who had an abortion, I’m telling you right now, I’m tired of using rape as an excuse. […] For years I lived in depression, contemplated suicide, attempted suicide, I spend years drinking to numb the pain, to numb the horrific nightmares, was later diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, not just because of the rape but because of the abortion. We have got to speak up, it’s not just about the babies, it’s about the moms like me who think they’re making a good decision but they’re not.”

Lee Ezell, author of the book The Missing Piece, was raped and became pregnant. She describes later meeting her daughter, whom she had given up for adoption many years before:

We met for the first time just a month after our first phone conversation. There are no words to describe my exact feelings as Julie walked into my hotel room.

Here was the child whose memory I’d hidden in my heart for so many years, the child who has given me my first grandchildren [...]

She embraced me. We cried. Bob [her husband] said with all the love in the world in his voice: “Thank you for not aborting Julie. What would my life be like without her?”

Finding my daughter has enriched my life beyond measure. The couple, who adopted her, Eileen and Harold Anderson, are beautiful people.

Julie, Eileen and I have been speaking to various groups about what happened to us. I guess our message is that just as bad things can happen to good people, so can something beautiful come from a wicked act. Julie is living proof of it.

A woman who was date-raped and chose to keep her baby wrote:

I feared I would see my rapist’s face every time I looked at my child—but I don’t. I see a beautiful, happy, little girl who wasn’t planned and wasn’t the result of an act of love—but nonetheless is loved very, very much.

Rebekah Berg, who was raped and chose to give life to her son, had the following to say:

My son is the product of rape, and he is the exception to the rule, as they say. Multitudes of women in my situation have had abortions, giving different reasons for their choice. But that child is still a child, no matter how he or she was conceived. I certainly did not choose to be raped and definitely did not choose to become pregnant. No more did my child ask to be conceived. I had no right to take his life because of the horrible situation that happened to me.

The thought that he would bear the same genes of my rapist was one of the questions that continue to linger at my soul during my pregnancy. Was I going to birth another rapist? Was I doing more harm than good with giving him life? My own son’s gentle spirit and thoughtfulness of others confirms that there is not a “rapist gene”. When I look into my son’s eyes, I only have love and have only loved him since he was laid on my chest after birthing him.

None of these women who chose to have their children after rape would say that their decision was easy. The trauma of being raped can haunt the victim for the rest of her life. But adding abortion on top of that trauma is not going to make it go away.

Many women have discovered that giving birth to their babies allowed them to heal.

I would like to nominate the following post because it reflects the true feelings of delusion and frustration of the member. To me this is obviously a person that has lost the "American Dream" because the dream always gave us hope and that Dream is slowly being lost throughout the country.

From time to time, we can yell "freedom" whenever we're in a conflict, but it's a mirage. The Star-Spangled Banner feels more like screeching than an actual anthem.

I love America the Beautiful far more as a National Anthem. But even that anthem doesn't necessarily capture the "spirit" of America. Why? Because America's spirit doesn't exist. Liberal politics is not National, in fact Liberals disdain the thought. And Conservatives are politically irrelevant(by their own actions.)

The country is a political atheist, its political thoughts the rough equivalent IMO of a five year old. And that today, more than anything is what's sinking this "union". That we're tied to it via debt(as you point out) is cruelly punishing to everyone.

I've responded to the post because I understand the delusional and the frustration expressed. It's very real and understandable but we need to understand the reason for the delusion and frustration and not give up. We're seeing so much of this today and we have a choice of either improving our nation or destroying our nation because "change" can be either positive or negative. Sometimes just understanding the problem can create hope where it didn't exist before.

Getting the votes in Congress to agree to put forth a modification or repeal to the 2A for ratification by the States is a means prescribed by the Constitution, and if, that were to concur and be successful, a Constitutionalist would be bound to accept it. What I see happening is continual attempts at re-writing history, a re-interpretation of the 2A to suit various agendas. I see continual attempts to circumvent the 2A with questionable laws. I see many local and state government legislatures passing laws that subvert individual rights, knowing full well they are not Constitutional, but do so because they know it will take years to get through the appeals courts before the off chance it will make it to the SCOTUS. California is one of the main culprits in this tactic. Much of the legislation I see is feel good, appear to do something legislation that limits individual liberties while doing nothing to stop criminals.

One question I often ask, 'Do you think you have the right to self defense and the defense of your family?"

I read the required history books provided to my daughters. I lived through some of it and found that they often didn't represent reality and were often these days, politically skewed to re-write history for particular agendas and that in some schools that many points of view are purposely omitted. Regardless, reading history in school does not convey the individual experiences of those that lived it. Reading about the Civil War doesn't convey the horror of those that lived through the battles. Reading about slavery doesn't convey the suffering of those enslaved. Reading about the Holocaust doesn't begin to convey the horrors of it. And, in the case of one series of the events I referred to in previous posts, seeing the genocide first hand of the Maya Indians in the nearly 40 year war of eradication by the Guatemalan Government, one conducted against a largely unarmed population, doesn't begin to convey the horror of it... and, that is something you are not likely to find in American History books. Reading about history, talking to those that experienced it and living it provide different perspectives. And yes, seeing what governments, criminals, and mobs are capable of doing first hand has given me a perspective, made me somewhat cynical, and I tend to be a realist.

When people start off with "respectfully" leading such a comment, it is usually anything but respectful, but what I call a soft insult.

No, it isn't a two way street in this context. Because I want to carry a gun legally and don't use it to violate someone else's right isn't trampling on anyone's rights. You have the right to an opinion, but if my carrying a gun legally stresses you, that is your issue, not me violating any right you have. In fact, when I am carrying, no one, not even my closest friends would know. I never display my gun, never brandish it. So, how does that violate anyone's rights? If I use it to commit a crime or to compel someone to do something they didn't want, then I would be violating their rights. But merely owning or carrying a gun legally doesn't violate a right. If it were so, then, in consideration of the 1st amendment if I said something that offended you, the analogy would be that I violated some right you have. I do understand there are those, particularly with the PC groups, that advocate that certain speech violates the rights of others because it might offend them. If that were the cases, all speech would be banned because someone is bound to be offended by anything anyone says.

I am open minded on many things, pretty much a social liberal but fiscally conservative Constitutionalist if I were to try to label my general views. But, I have seen what happens when governments and people do when they decide that they know better what best for others and then infringe on individual liberties and freedoms, it is called oppression and tyranny. No one has the right to determine what is right for me.

So again, one of those soft insults? But, to answer your question, no. A gun is a tool, and for me its little different than having a fire extinguisher, a smoke detector in my home, or chains and starter cables I might keep in the boot of my car. Depending on where I am at, put one on not much different and with as little thought as pocketing my wallet, keys, pocket knife, multi-tool, pens, or other EDC tools I carry. If I ever find the occasion I need it, I have it. Where I can't carry, I don't worry about it. In regard to self-defense, I am likely better equipped than the average person and my greatest asset in that regard is my ability to meet any situation calmly and use my head to sort through any emergency. In this country, I have never once needed to deploy a gun outside my home and then, twice at home, because my house was being broken into while I was home and in neither of those incidences did it need to use one. I have successfully defended myself many times, a few on occasion while carrying a gun, and never resorted to pulling one in those situations... never felt my life or someone else's was at risk, which is the only justification in my mind for ever using a gun in self-defense.

Giving back to the community and helping those about you is a good thing in anyone's eyes. As for taking a life, I hope you never have to make that decision or live with the aftermath... it is something I would wish for no one.

I live out here in North Dakota where guns is just part of daily life, I have almost 100 guns myself..

I have 19 shotguns all for different things for example...

I've always set a unloaded sig 45 on my living room table plain view of my kids telling them what it is and to never touch it....you know why?.....because now its not a mystery that they want to play with.

Guns are not evil (but Islamic terrorists sure are) there are over 100 MILLION gun owners in the United States, this isn't Australia or Europe, there will be NO stealing of our guns or repealing of the Second Ammendment short of a 2nd Civil War...that's a fact!

Many state Governors wouldn't even let the Feds enforce such a law in their state.

The one thing that drives me crazy is people (99% of the time lefties) who don't own a gun and probably never even shot a gun talk about guns and gun control

P.S.....No such think as an "Assault Weapon"...stop saying it, you sound silly
