Funny how the conservative senators and congressmen who voted against the recent gun bill say they did so with concern for a possible violation of our civil rights....and yet they had and have NO problem with the Patriot Act and all it's implications for violation. Just saying.

And for the record: Given the plethora of handguns (revolvers and semi-automatics), rifles (bolt action, semi-automatic) and shotguns, I would say that if you can't defend your home with one or more of these and an AR-15 is considered your only salvation, I'd say you're just a lousy shot. Just saying.

If you think someone is going to choose an AR-15 for home defense you don't know much about guns. They have many other purposes outside of that.

The actual definition, now part of the commentary:

Funny how all those so called conservatives are so concerned with civil rights, actually privileges bestowed by the government, but as you have pointed out have no concern whatsoever over real rights. Actually much worse than that to the point that they press "civil rights" in such a manner that the unwashed masses have no thought whatsoever to real rights. A real right is inherent, bestowed by your creator, not endowed by man.

What does being a lousy shot have to do with anything? Which part of "shall not be infringed" have to do with what one wants for protection? What if I like to have missile launchers, grenade launchers and an M60 or two for that warm feeling?

Won what? The NRA has never won anything outside of compromise of the whole concept of an unalienable or inalienable, whichever you prefer, rights.

But still, they work so well in a heated firefight.

Not really as the dead Orlando shooter could testify to. He was taken out relatively quickly.

The 2nd is not about hunting or home defense. It is for Americans to defend the country and their liberties from foreign invasion or tyrannical government. Your strawman does not qualify for an argument.

Once again, you have another gunner who OMITS part of the 2nd Amendment in order to justify NRA clap trap. Here it is AGAIN: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Over the decades, folks and lawyers and judges have construed this that Americans are guaranteed a "right" to own a gun. This has resulted in STATE AND FEDERAL regulations of ownership. Subsequently, certain weapons have been prohibited for the general public throughout this country's history. This does NOT mean that ALL weapons are banned.

The point of the OP is that you don't need an AR-15 to defend your home. And remember, if the assault weapons ban had been in effect, the jokers at San Bernandino and Orlando wouldn't have been able to cause the damage they did in such numbers.

So why ban the AR-15? Did you know many pistols carry just as many rounds?

Do you want to ban it because it looks scary?

they win for the profit margin of the gun manufacturers.

It's a fact...and no gun regulation to date bans all weapons.

Cut the crap, spooky....the AR-15 gives a better, faster more accurate delivery....hence it's preference as training weapon. You just can't concede a point, so you dance to another.

You honestly think lugging that thing around your house is going to be better than a pistol? The only benefit an AR-15 gives you is range and you don't need that for home defense. Good luck knocking over every lamp in your house as you try to aim this thing.

It has great uses in hunting because of its load out and range. Home defense not at all. Shooting up a nightclub you are better off with a pistol for many reasons. Easier to hide, quicker to reload, easier to aim.

When was the last time a gun was used to "defend" against "tyrannical government" and what was the outcome?

In other words that is just another fantasy of the gun obsessed because a government OF the People and FOR the People is not going to ever be "tyrannical".

But he was an idiot that had just purchased the weapon and was only effective against unarmed bigger idiots that thought laying on the floor was self defense.

What strawman, that is but a figment of the imagination used by those ignorant of the fact it doesn't matter. The 2nd doesn't really matter as it is but a restriction against a fiction, strawman if you like, that is incapable of anything but deflection of the real matter, perceived authorities that have no authority except in the mind of those believing in the concept of slavery.

its also funny how democrats claim to support changing gun policy, but they rejected two bills by republicans to tighten gun policies... so they don't support it after all?
