This isn't a new claim.. It goes back to Emir Faisel whose mother was a Jew and to Ben Gurion. More recently Shlomo Sands made the same claim. Its an interesting article.

    Excerpt:

After years of research, Misinai says that he can declare with certainty that nearly 90 percent of all Palestinians are descended from the Jews. "And what's more, about half of them know it," he says.

Not only that, many Palestinians retain Jewish customs, including mourning rituals, lighting Shabbat or memorial candles and even wearing tefillin.

While the common wisdom among many Israelis is that the group that calls itself "Palestinian" is a motley collection of Arabs from various parts of the Middle East who immigrated to the Land of Israel following the employment opportunities provided by Jews, Misinai says that the vast majority of today's Palestinians are descended from the remnants of Jewish families who managed to avoid being deported over the past 2,000 years, or returned to their lands after they were exiled, as the Jews in the Holy Land suffered blow after blow - from the Roman destruction of the Temple to the Crusades to famine, poverty and war throughout the Middle Ages.

One thing many were unable to avoid, however, was converting to Islam - a forced conversion that never really "took," done more out of fear than conviction.

Misinai has made it his mission to spread the word among Palestinians, giving them the opportunity to retrieve their lost heritage. And not just introduce them to their roots; according to Misinai, the reintegration of what he calls the "descendants of Israel" with the Jewish people is the best - perhaps the only - way to solve the seemingly endless Middle East crisis.

Despite what some may be thinking, Misinai is not a nut.

In fact, he is a hi-tech entrepreneur, perhaps the first in Israel's history. While the kids from ICQ and Google were still in diapers, in the early 1980s Misinai was building Sapiens into a world-class application developer, focusing on the insurance industry.

All those rule-based, object-oriented applications we use every day; it was Misinai who invented the concept, and the product, winning the Rothschild Award for industrial development in the field of software in 1992.

Several years afterward, he retired from the hi-tech business to return to his first love - researching the history of the Land of Israel. "I became interested in this area because of my father, who was a great collector of artifacts about the Land of Israel," he says, a hobby he has continued.

But besides objects, Misinai collected stories - legends and folklore from the mouths of mukhtars, village elders throughout the land, attesting to the truth of his assertions. "There are large clans throughout the country, in the Hebron Hills, in Samaria and among the Negev Beduin, who know of their heritage and even have family trees that document their roots.

Not only that; many of them have specifically Jewish customs, and their neighbors would call them 'the Jews,' even though they were technically as Muslim as anyone else."

Close to nine out of 10 Palestinians in the Land of Israel - Israel proper, Judea, Samaria and Gaza - have Jewish roots. In fact, he says, the percentage in Gaza is somewhat higher than 90 percent.

I think that by now, it is common knowledge the Palestinians are, basically, a semitic people that converted to Islam.

90% sounds a bit exagerrated thought, when we know how much this poeple like to commerce and exchange, which made them a society that accepts metissage.

Yes, it's well known. Other things are like the star on old graves and houses, names of Palestinian villages and a whole lot more. Then you get to genetics which indicate that most Palestinians are right at the centre of Jewish genetics. They have a relationship to all and generally the closest genetic relationship suggesting of course that they are the most direct descendants of the ancient Jews. It is one of the saddest things the world has ever done. Thrown off a land the very people you say you are. The very people whose history is that which you make believe is yours....I am sure any 'God' involved in this is going to be anything but pleased.

Oh he most certainly does. You never heard of Christian Zionists and their input to settlements. It was the same who were intent on putting European Jews there before they had even thought of it. Started in the 16th C I think when they first got bibles and misunderstood them.

The historic references in the article are not new nor were they originated with Faisal.

Of course Jews existed prior to bioth Christians and Muslims. Its not rocket science.

Misnai has a political agenda to create one state that would be both Muslim and Jewish.

As such his agenda is a joke because show me one Muslim state that treats non Muslims as equal citizens. They do not. In fact they define non Muslims as inferiors not capable of having the same rights. The very essence of Islam and its sharia laws is to state there can only be a Muslim state, not ni-religious state and that anyone who is not a Muslim is a dhimmi, an inferior. Islam and its state structure is predicated on apartheid and defining non Muslims as inferiors.

It's also not a coincidence this article attracts people seeking to disband Israel as a Jewish state. Its a great pretense to try justify getting ride of a Jewish state pretending Muslim beliefs would allow for a bi religious state.

Spare me Margot. You are well aware Muslim religion does not allow in its laws any co-religious equality or bi-religious state identity.

That's the very reason Palestinians were forced to be Muslims-the conversion was forced on them. Ooops you forgot that part of the article.

Palestinians would still be Jewish had the Muslims not forced their conversion to their religion.

    Interesting how you skip that.

Go on read the constitution of Jordan, It doesn't allow Jews to be citizens. Go on lecture me Margo how many Jews live as equal citizensin Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Sudan.

    Spare me.

Absolute nonsense genetic testing proves that the so called Palestinians trace their lineage to the Levant with the Arab Islamic invasions.

    Populations of the Caucasus,
flanked by Cypriots, form an almost uninterrupted rim that separates
the bulk of Europeans from Middle Eastern populations. Bedouins,
Jordanians, Palestinians and Saudi Arabians are located in close
proximity to each other, which is consistent with a common origin
    in the Arabian Peninsula25

I think the Jewish farmers first converted to Christianity.. and of course there were always many, many Christians in Palestine until 1967.

There have been Arabs in Palestine since the time of Abraham... Remember that Abraham and Moses both had Arab wives..

And, Sargon 2 settled 4 Arab tribes in Samaria around 700 BC.

During the time of Abraham there were many people living or passing through... No one designated or kept a record of Arabs from Arabia in this area. Thanks for mentioning Abraham though for this would be your only historic reference.

The Arabs from the Arabian peninsula and Yemen began migrating north over 10,000 years ago in waves... because Arabia became more arid.

Good, now all you have to do is convince the Palestinians they are really part of the Israeli Jewish nation and convert back to their true origin - and we can all live happily together maybe even re-build the Temple ? no ?

On the other hand, there are records of many Jewish tribes in the Arabian Peninsula. Today's Arabs are in fact Jews. Give us all the Arab countries.

    This thread is beyond ridiculous.

the Jews already lived throughout the Roman Empire, when the Romans defeated the Jews in AD 135 AD.

10% of the Roman Empire was Jewish.

that's why the Jews lived in central Europe and then moved East to Russia, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, etc.

I can't imagine why conservative and reformed Jews would fail to get along with Palestinians be they Muslim or Christian..

And I seriously doubt that Jews would return to animal sacrifice.

When Omar took Jerusalem there were no Jews there.. just Christians and they had probably been Jews previously... Her claim of forced conversion doesn't make much sense. Omar invited Jews to move back to Jerusalem.

no, its history proven by science.

the Jews moved to southeastern Europe, then moved north into the Holy Roman Empire, then east into Eastern Europe.

Jews were forbidden from converting Gentiles starting around 350 AD, and ever since then the Jews of Europe had little inter-marriage.

is it possible that most Ashkenazi Jews are descended from Italian, Greek, Anatolian, Cretian, Sicilian converts who became Jews before it became illegal to convert Gentiles to Judaism? yes.

but the genetic evidence, showing Ashkenazi Jews possessing Middle Eastern genes while their neighbors do not, is proof that we have Israelite genes and are descended from the ancient Jews along with European converts.
