Interestingly, Dr. Spack likes to emphasize his jewish origin, and in the following interview with The Boston Globe he actually uses his religion to justify what he's doing to these children:

I have two questions for my fellow PF users:

1. Do you think it's right of Norman Spack to push for sex-change treatment for small children?

2. Does the jewish religion really sanction this?

 

If you are born one sex but positively identify as the opposite gender, then I think this is okay. This is a very small percentage (0.2%) of the population we're talking about. As I understand it, transgender people are born this way similar to being homosexual. It is easier to make the change before puberty kicks in.
