Justin wrote about Iranian ships intercepting a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf. Now, warning shots were fired on an Iranian ship that came within 200 yards of U.S. Navy ships, with officials saying that they have no clear what Iran’s intentions are with these reckless exercises (via CNN):

A US Navy patrol craft fired three warning shots at an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps boat Wednesday after US officials said it had harassed that patrol craft, CNN has learned.

Another US patrol craft and a Kuwaiti Navy ship were also harassed in the incident, which took place in the northern end of the Persian Gulf.

At one point, the Iranian boat came within 200 yards of one of the US Navy boats. When it failed to leave the area after the Navy had fired flares and had a radio conversation with the Iranian crew, the US officials said, the USS Squall fired three warning shots. Following standard maritime procedures, the Navy fired the three shots into the water to ensure the Iranians understood they needed to leave the immediate area.....snip~

I'd rather be buzzed in a boat than an aircraft. Sounds like immature sabre rattling. Anyways, good restraint by the Navy men. China, Russia, Iran, and N. Korea are pushing their luck these days. Testing the waters if you will.

The US Navy belongs in the USA, not overseas.

    GET THE HELL OUT NOW!

So how does that assist those allies calling on the US for assistance? Are we suppose to not support our allies so that they can break off all ties with the US?

At the time the government tried isolationism in the 1920s & 30s wealthy elite Republican capitalists were financing Hitler as well as the Bolsheviks. See my earlier posts on the books of conservative Professor Anthony Sutton.

    Identify those "allies".

What menace are they saying threatens them?

What do we get in return for fighting their "wars" ever what they might be.

They say Iran is the menace. The Saud and the Sunni, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, just to name a few.

Well....that is the question. What do we get.

I am all for them paying protection, security, and handling their problem for them.

Funny how the right wingers always say that the government needs to stay out of health care issues, stay out of police crimes on black people, and the government is the problem not the solution to society's problems.

This until the matter of foreign policy comes when comes up. Then those same right wingers say that government intervention is the exclusive solution.

Hypocrisy and double standards, much ???

So now we have practiced overthrowing governments and invading countries under fraud. Except for those in the arms industry, that has not worked either.

    What to do?

The Iranians again.....harass one of our ships. Unbelievable.....we do nothing but talk about how unprofessional the Iranians are?

7 Iranian Boats Harass Navy Ship in Gulf....

Iranian fast boats have once again harassed an American ship in the Persian Gulf, forcing a U.S. Navy patrol boat to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision with one of the Iranian boats.

American officials have labeled the Iranian actions in Sunday's encounter involving the USS Firebolt as "unsafe and unprofessional." It is the latest in a string of such incidents over the past two weeks in which small craft from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) have harassed U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf.

"The USS Firebolt, a patrol craft, was operating in international waters in the central Arabian Gulf, was approached by seven fast-attack craft from Iran," Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters today.

"Three of them maneuvered close to the ship, shadowing her course from a range of about 500 yards," he said. "They eventually broke off. One of the remaining boats turned towards the USS Firebolt and came to a stop directly in front of the ship. This caused the Firebolt to have to maneuver to avoid a collision. They came within about 100 yards of each other.

"During the interaction, the Firebolt attempted multiple radio communications with the Iranians" that went unheeded, said Davis. "This is another example of an unsafe and unprofessional interaction we've had with the IRGCN in the Gulf."

He added, "This is clearly a pattern, and it's one we're not happy about, and we'd like to see this sort of behavior stop." .....snip~

Yes, it did. A warning shot is one shot at the waterline.

Yes, war is the solution to all problems.

As USN P-8 aircraft push the Bear's borders, what goes around might come back around, eh?

Sinking a few Iranian boats is not starting a war, it is sending a message.

In reality, we have no business being there. Let the Middle East solve it own problems or sink in it own chit.

Iran ... first of all we have to understand if this is an aspect of a general strategy decided at Teheran [we should not forget that the Revolutionary Guard itself works as a Mafia, being substantially a state in the state, with connections with real Mafia http://www.businessinsider.com/how-...-rules-the-countrys-black-market-2015-12?IR=T]. It's not impossible that they want more tense to force the Iranian government not to get too close to the West.

Isolationism is better for a theocratic regime: once Iranians will feel a bit of freedom, they won't remain under the shadow of the Ayatollah.

Every time US ships pass through the Straits of Hormuz, through Iranian waters, they are liable to come close to Iranian patrol boats whose job and function is to monitor movements in and around Iran's territorial waters. On some occasions, particularly when the US has the audacity to question Iran's right to monitor ships that enter those waters under the so-called "right of innocent passage", we might find Iran's boats get close to the US vessels to make a point that seems to be forgotten in all these reports: the right of innocent passage is subject to the certain limitations and restrictions and navigation into the Strait of Hormuz is ultimately subject to national security and other laws and regulations of the coastal state.
