To many players have suffered permanent disabilities as a result of this barbaric sport. It is time to end it. NOW!!!

I don't care about the NFL. They are adults. It's getting kids to play peewee and high school football (maybe even college) before they know any better about the risks. The male brain is very immature until about age 25. I think they are going to be diagnosing a lot more CTE post mortem. Teaching players to not lead with their heads in tackles and kicking them out of the game for it now is a start.

Well I care about both. As someone who used to play football, I know I had no idea of the type of risk I was exposing myself to. My brother actually used to play pro football, he is of the same opinion.

How many parents want their kids to be into boxing in HS or College? The risk of brain injury and chronic brain disease is about the same as I understand it. Do you want your kid to have Parkinson's by his 40's?

Ask a 100 black boys what they want to be when they grow up. Many will say NBA or NFL star. Very few want to be doctors or engineers like Asian kids. It is their ticket to riches to be a pro athlete. Pro football makes a ton of money. I don't think it's going anywhere soon. I think if it was more rugby like as it used to be you wouldn't see as many damaging hits. Leather helmets instead of battering rams. The ones that have it the worst are actually the lineman that suffer from head to head contact on almost every play.

I used to be like that as a young black kid. All of that was especially enhanced because I had a much older brother who was a very good football player. That guy had all kinds of very beautiful girlfriends. I remember he told me he went through a whole sorority in college. So you could imagine the effect that had on me. Now he realizes the price players pay over the long run and knows its not worth it.

Its how we simulate fighting wars! Also fills the human need for gladiatorial fighting in lieu of ones personal injury.

Saves lives but at a price

By all means redo the helmets. However the chief problem is sheer size. When I played and watched in the sixties a big offensive linemen was about 6'4' and maybe 290 and centers might be 245. Linebackers maybe 220. and 4.5 was rare speed in a back or a wide receiver. Now it's 350 in the O and d lines to be competitive and 6'6 and 245 is a line backer and safeties are as big as line backers used to be and everyone seems to be faster than 4.8 and a lot of people are sub 4'3. Bigger and faster equals more damage.

I think every high school football player and parents should have to sign a legal waiver that they realize the long term effects of the sport. No parents in their right mind should let their kids play football. Unfortunately football is bigger than religion in some places.

Don't redo them--take them away. People will be less inclined to slam into people with their head if they don't have a helmet on

It is just reality. Having played both football and rugby, it is easy to see the difference in the type of contact when you are not padded down with a helmet on. The games are arranged differently, but having to wrap around someone to bring them to the ground in rugby is more a refined skill than just plowing into them like in football.

While an absurd example, people are a lot less likely to jump off a tall bridge if they don't have a bungee cord attached.

This is part of why I stopped being a leftist: you refuse to acknowledge the role of consent and individual autonomy in mitigating harm.

I love Football & I love my BRONCOS---it is not for sissy's & the players know that-there have been rules adopted for better protection--so ban football, then ban boxing, ban baseball, ban soccer, ban the Olympics, ban race car driving ,ban hockey---I could keep going, but I think you get my drift-----

People get hurt in contact and non-contact sports. Fact of life.

Thank Zeus you don't run society. I already feel like a slave bounded by too many rules. I'd be absolutely miserable in any society you ran.

Let me guess, you'd also ban the following:

    1. Motorcycles
    2. Cigarettes
    3. Alcohol
    4. MMA/Boxing
    5. Extreme Sports
    6. How long must I continue?

Small children probably shouldn't play tackle football, but older kids should be able to engage in dangerous activities. Let boys be boys, and let's try to keep the vaginalization of America from metastasizing beyond hope of recovery.
