Trump's protectionism will lead to a currency war with China resulting in the opposite of what he states he wants: china to play fair with currency

    proposition 1
protectionism makes foreign goods more expensive relative to domestic goods therefore protecting domestic producers

    proposition 2
when foreign countries devalue their currency, exports are encouraged as their exports become relatively cheaper through weakened exchange rate

    proposition 3
trump recognizes china devalues their currency as an economic strategy

    conclusion
if trump were president and put up stiff protections against china - china would respond by further devaluing their currency.

    ultimate conclusion
his plan will result in the opposite of what he intended - china pursuing an inflation based economic strategy

    economic wars:
    American revolution (tariffs)
    English Indian war (opium wars)
American wars in the gulf (oil)

economic hostility lays the foundation for overt hostility

    throw your arguments out there...

Trump wants American goods sold abroad as easily as foreign goods are sold here. It's as simple as that and it will greatly help America.

will hurt US consumers that will be forced to pay higher prices for products produced by inefficient american companies. will sow seeds for economic hostility.
free market's critical requirement is competition. americans are supposed to be competitors yet we are tuck tail cowards when it comes to trade.

absurd since they will have higher paying jobs and will be able to afford higher prices.1+1=2

and obviously trump will foster competition by making their markets as open as ours are 1+1=2

hello. it sounds like you guys understand what Trump thinks he will do to improve economy if president. I'm unclear on a few things, 1. how can we make other countries buy our products if they are more expensive 2. if we put tariffs on goods from other countries wont everybody in US end up paying more for everything? 3. can anyone give me a thumbnail sketch of what the US has agreed to in our trade agreements that trump wants to re negociate thanks

how will we compete when our labor costs are so much higher? do you think American consumers would pay more for things made in USA if given that option?

i dont think there are any shortcuts to successfully exporting. you gotta make a really really good product (that is somewhat scarce). If you look at the stuff we import, even when it is ungodly expensive, we do so because these products are outstanding and worth the money:
    African Coffee
    French truffels
    Italian sportscars

none of the above can really be recreated in the states.

I think most agree tariffs make goods more expensive. What people overlook is that most common tariffs are food products, crops. many poor countries export crops so they get hurt badly by tariffs. we keep the poorest countries poor by doing so. In turn, they continue to harbor disease, corruption, famine, and terrorism. Indirectly, taking economic shortcuts exposes us to tremendous longrun risk.

if you google us tariffs, you can find a lists of tariffed goods. a whole lot of stuff is already tariffed!

it always boggles my mind that we americans fear competition. who loves sports more than us? isn't the purpose of sports to teach children at a young age that winning and losing is the reality of life? how do you win? You have to get good...how do you get good...you have to practice. it is not easy. we are raised as young to compete compete compete then suddenly want to abandon competition as adults...hmm.

in my opinion, what makes it so hard for us to compete, is we steer people in the wrong direction with our education infrastructure. from a financial standpoint, there is no difference in cost between an engineering education and an art history education. yet, lenders (the US governmnt) will make the same loan to both students without a second thought. kids should probably use the avg salary statistics of majors to figure out how they will make a living or maybe colleges could charge less money for certain majors.

We compete now obviously!!!. Unemployment is 4.9% and that is with liberal taxes unions and budget deficits shipping jobs to china, and with 30 million illegals in the country taking our jobs and driving wages down!! Remove the liberal cancer and America would boom!!
