Science has the answer...Sort of. http://www.sciencechannel.com/tv-sh...he-curious-videos/is-the-5-second-rule-legit/
I think I will pass, I'd throw it out on the lawn, there are many creatures out there that would be more then happy to eat something using the 5 second rule and beyond... not me .
yes, as the risks of starving surpassed the risks of eating sometime that fell on the ground, I would take that into account
The 5 second rule is inaccurate in that the scientifically defined period of time for consumption of dropped or otherwise soiled food stuffs varies depending on what type of food, level of desire for it, and what it has fallen into/upon. The individual subject making such a decision may very well see a candy dropped into excrement as unacceptable immediately while a scallop perfectly cooked falling on the floor to be irresistible after over one minute of static linoleum contact regardless of a lack or recent mopping.
Not if the Dog and or Cat eat it first. This is all academic anyway, nobody here is starving, and currently in America, if you are starving, you are not very hungry, there are more soup kitchens than ever before as well as Hobo pantries and other charitable institutions.
Hobo Pantry, is that right next to Bum's Bistro and just across from the Panhandler's Pizzeria. I once had a house where I had just refinished the wood (heartwood pine, beautiful natural grain) floors with four painstakingly applied coats of transparent and impervious polyurethane. (Hand brushed with light sanding in between. ) For at least a few days it was my wont to actually use the floor as a kitchen table, but the novelty soon wore off. Freaked my gf out no end though.
I'm not starving, but I have gone several days without food. A good Samaritan gave me something to eat today, for which I am very grateful. It really sucks getting paid once a month. Sometimes I have a few dollars at the end of the month. Sometimes I run out a week, or more, early. It's mostly my own fault. I buy something that I don't really need, then wind up regretting it. Fixed incomes really suck.
