I'm a hard core liberal which means a fiscal conservative. I live in the DR Congo where I am a non-religious Catholic missionary. Meaning I work for them because of my skills as opposed to any religious beliefs. I am in charge of computerizing tax collections and public spending for the provincial government. I also teach project development at an ag/public health university.
Hope you are safe there. Does the area where you live have a 911 call system? Are there any police or emergency services outside the few major cities? Does one have to bribe thugs setting up roadblocks to pass?
Social liberal by all measures. I also find liberals are more inclined to actually want their government to spend within their means than inclined to talk about it. Clinton and Obama lowered deficit spending, Reagan and Bush raised it.
I hope so too, check back on Dec 20th when the President was supposed to step down but appears disinclined to do so. No, no 911, not even in the cities. Bribes unless you are willing to make them sweat. I make it clear that I can be their best friend or worse enemy, their choice. Privilege comes with age.
Most of the schools here are Catholic run, including the Universities. To work here you must have a proper visa and a missionary visa allows me to work. I have skills in computers and agriculture that they need in their schools and I am happy to oblige. In exchange they allow me to get the missionary visa. Win Win. I do get paid by the State for the work that I do for them but I don't take a dime from any school.
You are one brave dude. Unless God himself spoke to me from a burning bush saying I would be unharmed in the Congo, I would not go there.
Nah, stubborn is a better adjective. I have good friends high up on both sides and am well known as neutral. No problems.
