I'm agnostic, but I come from a fundamentalist family and have a slightly different perspective than a cradle to grave atheist.

So here goes-- First the God of the bible is, according to Judaic theist, just God. But as with just about any religion people disagree about specifics and values within their religion. So, just because the bible tells you to take your disobedient children to the back of town and stone them, most Christians and Jews don't think they are sinful when they let their bratty kids live.

So taking that into account I could give you a pretty good argument. But if you're unwilling to bend on that point then nothing I could argue would make any sense to you.

If God does not exist but you believe that he does, then you really don't lose anything as that should give you peace of mind. If God does exist, then you win the Powerball.

so your saying picking a God is like picking the power-ball, you might win - course if not picking the right one means god would punish you... is that really a good God?

Clearly, if they existed, the god of the bible and the angels were really aliens posing as gods.

From a scientific point of view. aliens are far more likely than a supernatural god. So logically, the best evidence for a god is found on UFO shows.

The best argument I've ever heard FOR the god of the Bible is, strangely enough, a lot like the best argument I've ever heard FOR no gods existing.

It goes like this: Here is the world. Look at it. You've gotta see that a god has to be involved.

It's counterpart goes like: Here is the world. I don't see any gods and there is no need for gods. So...there are none.

    Those are the best.

They're probably among the worst also.

That's the way things go with this issue.

The best argument I've ever heard on the issue, though, is:

Is there a god...or are there gods in REALITY?

Beats the hell out of me. Cannot think of any way to make a meaningful guess.

I said the God of the Bible to avoid the question, "which god?"

So it's far more likely to find more life than a source for life? If life exists, and it surely does, can we conclude that there is a source of that life? Life on Earth is not an assurance of life elsewhere.

And yet it is not an argument for God; it is merely an argument for believing in God.

A source for life? Life may well spring up anywhere it has half a chance. That is what we see here on earth. And there is no reason to think earth is unique. We know there are many earthlike planets out there. We also hope to find life in places close to home, like the liquid water oceans of Europa. And we still haven't ruled out that Mars once had life.

How does life occur? As near as we can tell, very slowly through very long odds. But when you get down to the molecular level, you get billions and billions of chances every day that eventually produce simple organisms which then evolve.

Stephen Hawking once noted that a computer virus technically qualifies as a life form. It meets the basic requirements. Defining what is and is not life gets difficult when you get down to very simple organisms. What isn't life and what is, is not a clear line.

You don't lose anything really. The Biblical God and the Biblical Jesus are very different entities. Which one is the one to whom people should pledge their allegiance even withing the Judaeo-Christian religion?

The God of the Bible is real is the best argument that I have heard... best being relative in this case as it is the best of the bad arguments and there are nothing but bad arguments. Saying that something exists does not objectively mean that it does or does not exist.
